Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is located in a region of the Midwestern United States that has been an integral economic force for many people over the centuries. Native Americans, early European settlers, and later immigrants and pioneers have all called this area home and benefited from its unique waterways and geographically central location. The park is home to the Cuyahoga River, which has been restored to a pristine state. Cuyahoga Valley is just below Lake Erie, and the Towpath Trail follows a portion of the historic Ohio and Erie Canal. The terrain is interesting and varied, and walking along the miles of trails will take you through stands of oak, pine, and hickory trees, as well as meadows and low-lying plains. This large park has 500 picnic tables, five picnic areas, and two pavilions. 

Blackwater Falls State Park

Deep inside the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, Blackwater Falls plunges 62 feet into the Blackwater River below. Blackwater Falls State Park is the home of this namesake waterfall, along with several smaller falls that can be viewed from above and below observation decks. The Blackwater River is a darkly colored river with tannic-tinted water that courses through the Canaan Valley and then enters the eight-mile-long Blackwater Canyon inside the park. The park also has a sledding magic carpet, 20 miles of hiking trails, and a lodge.

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is not only a wonderful nature conservatory, but it is also a Pittsburgh Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Conservatory was founded in 1893 by Henry Phipps, a local steel and real-estate businessman. Since its conception, the conservatory has been serving the public with preservation efforts and educational displays and research. Visitors can explore formal gardens and collections of various plants throughout the 14 rooms of exhibits. The Lord and Burnham conservatory buildings are superb examples of Victorian greenhouse architecture. The greenhouse production facility has Platinum certification and is the first greenhouse to receive such a designation.

Kentucky Horse Park

The Kentucky Horse Park is a fun place to visit whether or not you're a fan of equestrian sports. It is primarily a competition facility, but it also serves to educate and inform as it is a working horse ranch. While touring the complex, you will see many different breeds of horses taking their paces, and everyone will have the chance to take a horse ride. The International Museum of the Horse is the largest equestrian museum in the world and a Smithsonian Affiliate as well.
