Fishing and Boating
Fly-fishing enthusiasts from across the state drop by the Green River to fish for rainbow trout, brown trout, and cutthroat trout. The best time for anglers is between June and early August. Don't forget to spend a few afternoons floating or boating on the calm waters. Bridger National Forest to the east is also home to several fish-rich water sources like Fremont Lake, Half Moon Lake, and Willow Lake.
Climbing
Wyoming’s Wind River Range is known for its stunning Cirque of the Towers climbing area. The rugged granite spires and peaks promise technical and traditional routes ranging from Class 2 walk-ups to difficult 5.11b climbs. The two classic experiences include Wolf's Head and Pingora Peak. Overuse has become a problem in recent years, making it essential for all visitors to climb and camp responsibility.
Wildlife Viewing
During the summer, you're likely to see elk, coyotes, trumpeter swans, deer, pronghorn antelope, and sandhill cranes. In the colder season, it's easier to spot the local bighorn sheep, mule deer, bald eagles, and foxes. You should never get too close to any large mammals, such as bears or moose, that can react aggressively.
Picnicking
Feel free to plan your picnics at any of the dispersed camping sites around the Green River. You can also stop by the CCC Ponds/Pinedale Pathway to use the benches, warming hut, bathrooms, and trash services. Warren Bridge Campground has six picnic sites as well as an abundance of tables and barbeque grills.
Stargazing
Consider visiting the Half Moon Lake Marina near Pinedale to see thousands of stars unobstructed by any light pollution. Fremont Lake is another ideal spot that promises views of gorgeous constellations and faraway planets. For hobbyists looking to set up a telescope, you don't want to miss experiencing all that the Skyline Scenic Drive Overlook has to offer. This spot sits at an elevation of 9,000 feet, giving you a wide-open sky free of any looming mountain ranges.
