Fishing & Boating
Many who visit the Hanging Rock Recreation Site take the opportunity to do some fishing at the nearby Beaver River. The peaceful river, which is stocked several times each year, contains numerous rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Within walking distance of the recreation site, you'll find the Minersville Reservoir, which serves as a fantastic haven for fishing, boating, and water sports. The lake features boat docks, a launching ramp, a swimming dock, and many other conveniences and recreational areas on the shore.
Climbing

The peaks closest to the BLM site include Black Mountain East and West, Bradshaw Mountain, and Granite Peak.
Wildlife Viewing
If you travel southeast to Dixie National Forest, you can observe a wide variety of diverse wildlife species. While you explore the scenic forest and mountain trails, keep your eyes open for cougars, bobcats, and antelope passing through the area. You may also spot a Utah prairie dog peeking its head out from its den or a golden eagle majestically soaring above the treetops. Other animals regularly seen in the area include wild turkey, cottontail rabbit, and blue grouse.
Picnicking
The Hanging Rock Recreation Site features picnic tables as well as a group pavilion. When the weather is pleasant, you can enjoy your snack or lunch outside under the blue sky. However, when it gets uncomfortably hot or rainy, you can instead take shelter in the pavilion. You're also free to lay out a picnic blanket beside the nearby Beaver River and eat while you look out at the calm flow of water.
