In 2025, Park City, Utah will mark 40 years as the host of America’s premier festival of independent films. Every January, the Sundance Film Festival spotlights American-made and independent films and retrospectives. It also hosts filmmaker panel discussions. The festival showcases new work from filmmakers who compete to win the top prizes in categories that include American and international documentary and dramatic feature films as well as a selection of short films and episodic content. Viewers can also enjoy films in out-of-competition sections, including Premieres, Spotlight, Midnight, Family Matinee, and more. Many films Sundance features go on to win major film industry awards, like the Oscar.
The Sundance Film Festival hosts Cinema Cafe Talks, Film Church, film-related programming, and partner events like barre and pilates classes, plus events like the First Time Filmmakers at Sundance sponsored by the Antigravity Academy. Park City is an old silver mining town on the eastern side of the Wasatch Mountains in north-central Utah. It’s accessible from State Route 224 (SR-224) off of Interstate 80 and offers many RV-friendly businesses, parks, and campsites in the area. Parking at the festival is quite limited, so RVers should plan to take a taxicab into Park City, then use the free Festival Shuttles. The Sundance Film Festival always attracts high-profile artists and celebrities to its events. This year’s lineup of participants and special guests includes Olivia Colman, Steven Yeun, Cristina Costantini, Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah, and more.
The Sundance Film Festival does not host RV camping sites, but there are some great spots to set up camp nearby. Roam Echo Island RV Resort in Coalville, Utah, is located about 25 miles away from Park City off Interstate 80. It offers 157 paved sites with full hook-ups for RVs of all sizes, cabins, and tent sites.The resort hosts a variety of activities and amenities near the scenic Echo Reservoir. Visitors can play pickleball, take a boat out on the Weber River, and enjoy a soak in the hot tub. You can also buy groceries and supplies and take advantage of the showers, laundry facilities, and dump station on the grounds. Pets are welcome. Mountain Valley RV Resort is located near Heber City off of U.S. Highway 40, about 20 miles south of Park City. This family-friendly park is open year-round and offers full-service accommodations in a stunning Rocky Mountain setting. Visitors can explore the Heber Valley and Wasatch Mountain State Park nearby or ski at the resorts in the area. On-site, RVers can enjoy a heated pool, indoor and outdoor games, a dog park, an outdoor fireplace, and more. The park hosts 193 full hook-up sites. It also has a gathering facility, private bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities, a gift shop, and many more amenities. River’s Edge RV Resort at Heber Valley is located north of Heber City near the Jordanelle Reservoir. This campground is a wonderful spot for outdoor enthusiasts who want to visit Homestead Crater or Wasatch Mountain State Park. The resort has 48 gravel RV sites, including 33 sites with full hook-ups, plus cabins and yurts. Amenities include a general store with camping essentials, ice cream, and snacks, plus yard games, a playground, and an indoor gathering place. Visitors also have access to laundry facilities, showers, restrooms, and a dump station on site. Although there are many transportation options available near the Sundance Film Festival, visitors should prepare for travel delays. Be sure to bring warm clothes and comfortable walking shoes and boots since the outdoor temps can range from 20-40F. It’s also a good idea to plan ahead and find out when shuttles are up and running. The Sundance Film Festival is accessible from Salt Lake City, Utah, by taking I-80 West to Park City. From the city, head northwest on Park Avenue toward Heber Avenue, then continue onto UT-224 North. Use the left two lanes to turn left to merge onto I-80 W toward Salt Lake City. Use the right lane to take exit 124 for State St/US-89. Then, turn right onto US-89 N/S State Street. Turn left onto 400 S/E University Boulevard in Park City. Parking during the Sundance Film Festival is quite limited. However, parking is available at the Ecker Hill Park and Ride at 2500 Kilby Road, just off the Jeremy Ranch exit from I-80. You can take a free shuttle from there to Kimball Junction and Main Street.
