The site was originally acquired and developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the mid-1930s. It was not until 1949 that it officially became a state park administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. A couple of large U.S. cities in close reach from Pike Lake State Park are Pittsburgh to the northeast and Louisville to the southwest. If you happen to be heading from Pittsburgh, you should start the route by getting onto I-376 W from Ross St and Grant St. Next, you will follow I-79 S and I-70 W to Union Township and get off of I-70 W at Exit 126. You will now complete the route by continuing on OH-37 E to your destination in Benton Township.
