Yonkers, New York

The first FM radio broadcast was transmitted by resident, Edwin Howard Armstrong, from the city. It was also the home of numerous manufacturing plants in the early 20 century but most of them have already closed down, changing the demographics and economic perspective of the city.
Today Yonkers is mainly a residential city owing to its proximity to the city of New York, and its excellent transportation infrastructure including commuter railroad lines, five parkways and thruways.
