Sarasota, Florida was first indicated on a Spanish sheepskin map in 1763 as "Zarazote." The town was established in 1902 while its municipal government was incorporated in 1913, changing it into Sarasota City. In 1921, Sarasota was designated as the County Seat of Sarasota County when it was carved out of Manatee County.
