Blacksburg is a Virginia town with a population of around 43,000 residents. European settlers first arrived in the region in 1671 and stayed for a century. The Black family purchased 600 acres of land in the area and lived there until the turn of the century. In 1798, people who lived in the community decided to form a town that they named Blacksburg in honor of the family. Many know the town today for the Virginia Tech campus. Not only is Virginia Tech the city's largest employer, but the campus also has many tourist attractions on-site.
