Greenbrier State Forest is a unique attraction in southeastern West Virginia that offers natural beauty and a plethora of recreational opportunities. It is located very close to the historic towns of Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs, which are both great places to explore. The state of Virginia purchased the land in 1938 and has since developed it into the 5,200-acre attraction that it is today. One major feature that the state forest is known for is Kate's Mountain, a historic summit that reaches an impressive elevation of 3,300 feet. The state forest also hosts experts in the study of natural history to provide recreational events and valuable education related to the area’s geographical features.

It is common for visitors to travel to Greenbrier State Forest from Baltimore, Maryland. To begin the route, take Light St and E Conway St to I-395 S. Take I-95 S, I-495 W, I-66 W, I-81 S, and I-64 W to Harts Run Rd in Eastern. Then, get off at Exit 175 from I-64 W. Turn left onto Harts Run Rd to arrive at the destination. Greenbrier State Forest is great to visit year-round. The park is known for its 13 miles of trails ranging from 1 mile to 7.8 miles long. Pre or post-hike activities include fishing, disc golf, picnicking, and more.
There are a lot of different wildlife species to see here. The wildlife in the park includes deer, raccoons, wild turkeys, black bears, squirrels, chipmunks, and the unique Allegheny woodrat.
Greenbrier State Forest has 16 campsites suitable for RVs and tents. Campground amenities include electric hookups, picnic tables, a stone fireplace for grilling, and a central bathhouse. The campground is only open seasonally.
