Where to Camp Near the Belmont Stakes

Unfortunately, there are no RV parks or other accommodations at the Saratoga Race Course. You can find great options nearby, including these two RV parks: • Saratoga Escape Lodges and RV ParkWhispering Pines Campsites and RV Park If glamping is your thing, then the Saratoga Escape Lodges and RV Park is an outstanding place for you to spend the week. By staying for the week, you automatically fulfill the two-night minimum stay. This RV park has electric and water hookups but not sewer. It's a luxurious place, too, including hot showers, full restrooms, and an on-site convenience store. The park offers pony rides, and you can swim or use paddleboats. You can have an RV that is up to 40 feet in length, so the campground will fit most Class A and Class C motorhomes. If you've never driven a Class A motorhome before, then reading up on it would be a good idea. At Whispering Pines, the 112 campsites include full hookups and a bonus of cable television and landline telephone service. Anglers can fish in the campsite's well-stocked trout stream that is maintained by the state of New York. A swimming pool and on-site laundry facilities round out the amenities. This campsite accommodates RVs up to 50 feet in length. The dump station at Moreau Lake State Park is the closest such station to the Saratoga Race Course. Just drive 15 miles north on the Adirondack Northway.

WHERE TO STAY

For folks who don't want to use an RV camp or stay at the Hampton Inn, The Inn at Saratoga provides outstanding accommodations. It's a small property with 42 sumptuous rooms. The staff is fully versed in the inn's rich, quirky history. At the inn, modern amenities blend well with the elegance and country charm of the inn. The Springwater Bed and Breakfast is adjacent to the Saratoga Race Course, making it the most convenient accommodations for the event. The property has both a pub and a restaurant, and you will have a private bath or walk-in shower in your room.

HOW TO GET THERE

From New York City: Head north to Albany, and then take the Northway. From Springfield, Massachusetts: Follow the Massachusetts Turnpike west. Then, go north on the Northway. From all points west: Follow the New York State Thruway east. Then, head north on the Northway.

PARKING

Parking at the Saratoga Race Course is tiered: free general, preferred, and "silver trackside." Follow the parking map for details and directions. The furthest lots from the racecourse provide a shuttle service to the racecourse's entrance. The latest information on cost is as follows: Preferred parking is $15, and silver trackside parking is $20. Both of these are for the whole day.

Tickets are already on sale at the Belmont Stakes page of the New York Racing Association website. Be smart, and make sure to check the tickets and/or packages you buy thoroughly. Some such purchases are nonrefundable, and the luxury options are quite expensive. Remember, too, that the general admission tickets start at $75. You should devote the whole day to getting to the racetrack on time, watching the race, and getting back to your RV campground or hotel. As stated, using ride-sharing services is a great way to avoid parking hassles. • Day 5: This is the right time for a relaxing day to unwind after the intense excitement of the race. For an interesting activity, you can visit the site where potato chips were invented. Even though the restaurant itself is no longer there, you can walk by the site where George Crum created the chips to satisfy a picky customer who complained that his potatoes weren't crispy enough!
