The Thunder Valley National Motocross event will be the 3rd Round of the Pro Motocross Championship series this year. The event will take place at the Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colorado, which is known for the way motorcycle engines reverberate off of the surrounding landscape during races. The crowds at Thunder Valley are just as loud, making a trip to the track a full experience for racers and spectators alike.
Thunder Valley Motocross Park, just a short drive from downtown Denver, has been hosting races for fewer than 15 years. At first, riders and mechanics struggled with the altitude and summer heat, which made their motorcycle fuel actually boil. Now, the races are scheduled strategically to avoid the summer heat for both drivers and visitors. Visit the Thunder Valley National to see all classes of racers compete throughout the day, with a kick-off time of noon.
The grounds have open-air festival seating with an accessible viewing area, a covered Super Ticket Seating area, and VIP Viewing Areas. There is also infield track viewing via two track tunnels. There’s nearly 100% track viewing from a number of vantage points, an interactive Sponsor Village, concessions, a baby changing station, Jumbotron viewing, and free motorcycle parking with a gear check.
Thunder Valley is right outside of Denver, in the suburbs of Lakewood and Morrison. 701 South Rooney Rd. Lakewood, CO 80465

You can go camping right at Thunder Valley to make sure you never miss a beat of action on the track. Camping at this location is primitive, so you won’t have any hookups. However, you can always bring a generator to power your RV as needed to run kitchen equipment, take a shower, or cool off with some air conditioning. Here are some tips for those who camp at Thunder Valley: • All campers must be out of the campgrounds by 10:00 a.m. on the Sunday after the races. • Fan Camping and Preferred Camping are available. Fan Camping is less expensive, but Preferred Camping gets you closer to the track. • All campsites are given on a first-come, first-served basis, even with camping tickets purchased in advance. • Be aware of carbon monoxide poisoning at Thunder Valley. Like all motocross locations, it experiences a lot of vehicle and generator exhaust in a small area, so try to sit and sleep in well-ventilated areas at all times. You can keep other campgrounds in the Denver area in mind just in case the campground at the track fills up. Bear Creek Lake Park is a campground that has electrical hookups, onsite water fill-ups, and a dump station. There are also showers and restrooms. Clear Creek RV Park is nearby, too, and offers creek side sites with Wi-Fi, showers, and laundry facilities. The campground is a half-mile walk to downtown Golden shopping, breweries, and restaurants.
The closest hotel to the motocross track is Origin Hotel Red Rocks, which takes its name from the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre. You'll find it off Highway 40. It has free Wi-Fi, paid breakfast options, and free parking for guests. The Hampton Inn Denver/West/Golden hotel is near the motocross track, but it’s also close to attractions like the Colorado Railroad Museum and the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave. It features an indoor pool, free Wi-Fi, and free breakfast. Another good area hotel is the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Golden/Denver Area, which is off I-70. It offers a fitness center, a pool and hot tub, and free breakfast.
