Why Choosing the Best RV Rental Company Makes a Difference

When it comes to renting an RV, the platform or rental company you choose is literally ground zero in terms of creating your vacation. What each company offers — or, sometimes more importantly, doesn’t offer — will have a material impact on the features that are available to you in the rental and how easy it is to find them.

Additionally, for many vacationers, budgetary and financial concerns are among the most important factors to consider when planning a trip. Understanding included insurance as well as fee structures helps renters compare side-by-side to determine the RV rental companies that can offer the biggest bang for their buck, as well as keeping their finances safe and protected for the long run.

Finally, we looked at the fine details that make all the difference for RVers: specific filters available in each company’s interface, special stand-out features that competitor companies don’t offer, options like one-way RV rentals or delivery and setup. It’s truly our belief that each of the RV rental companies out there is right for someone in some capacity. It’s simply about finding which one is best for you and your family at this specific moment — which is exactly what we’re hoping to help do with this article.

The Best RV Rental Companies in 2026: Rated

Without further ado: Here are the top RV rental companies in 2026 and our findings. (We’ve also included Airbnb, since it’s one of the most common alternatives people choose when considering an RV vacation — though according to another analysis of ours, RV rentals almost always beat out Airbnb in terms of overall cost.

Outdoorsy

Founded more than a decade ago, Outdoorsy is a peer-to-peer RV rental marketplace that today boasts more than 200,000 listings across both the United States and Canada. As such, vehicles can be driven across the U.S./Canada border (though you should always confirm permission with your RV rental host), and you can also easily start a vacation in Canada as well.

Outdoorsy’s insurance options include up to $1M in liability coverage as well as collision and comprehensive coverage, and the platform is populated by a large range of RV types and models, including towables. However, its interface lacks some of the specific search features available from RVshare, and although the fee structures are similar, some reddit users report finding a higher number of service fees and add-ons in their Outdoorsy experience than with RVshare.

Pros

  • Peer-to-peer RV rental marketplace which can keep prices lower for renters
  • Large inventory of diverse vehicles
  • Insurance coverage of up to $1M liability
  • Delivery and one-way RV rental options available
  • Vehicles available in both U.S. and Canada

Cons

  • Fewer filtering options than RVshare
  • Reddit users report higher fees (reddit)

Standout Features

Outdoorsy offers a special “Driver’s Age” filter to help you find hosts comfortable with drivers between 21 and 24. $1M insurance coverage.

Best For

Younger drivers

RVezy

RVezy stands out from its competitors in that it was founded and built in Canada, so it offers a much more robust stock of vehicles in the Great White North. Additionally, it offers up to $2M in liability insurance coverage for RV owners on each and every rental, which is the highest we found in the industry. (RVezy)

Like other peer-to-peer RV rental marketplaces, RVezy does offer an easy, searchable interface, with star ratings and select Instant Book listings available. While users can easily toggle filters for specific vehicle types, including towables as well as listings that offer unlimited mileage, there are, again, far fewer filters than RVshare offers, and no option for renters under 25 years of age. Additionally, RVezy lacks a built-in campground directory, which makes booking your entire vacation in one place easier. Finally, one-way RV rental options are not built into the platform, though you may be able to arrange a one-way agreement with an RV rental host on an individual basis.

No “Fully Stocked” filter. Driveable and towable RVs available. $2M insurance coverage

Pros

  • Peer-to-peer RV rental marketplace which can keep prices lower for renters
  • Large inventory of diverse vehicles
  • Insurance coverage of up to $2M liability, highest in the industry
  • Robust stock in Canada and easy cross-border travel

Cons

  • No one-way RV rentals easily available (though may be arrangeable with hosts)
  • No built-in campground directory
  • No option for renters under 25 years of age

Standout Features

We love that RVezy offers a specific “Budget Friendly” filter that makes it easy to look for low-cost rentals.

Travelers wanting to begin trips in Canada

RVshare

Of course we had to include ourselves in the ranking! RVshare was founded in 2013, making us one of the oldest peer-to-peer RV rental platforms in the world. Over that time, we’ve gained more than 100,000 listings and helped power thousands of unforgettable vacations, as well as bringing travelers in touch with like-minded people through the host/renter interactions in our secure platform.

RVshare offers all the options which have become industry standard for RV rental marketplaces. (In many instances, we set the trend.) One-way RV rentals, delivery and setup, and stationary stays are all available through the platform. Additionally, as we’ll cover below, our roster of built-in filters is more robust than any other platform’s, allowing for rentals to search for exactly what they want in a vacation rental vehicle in extremely granular detail.

RVshare is also known for its wide array of vehicle types, with a specific emphasis on a wide array of towable vehicles for those looking to explore the travel trailer camping lifestyle. And with our built-in campground directory and booking system, RVshare truly makes it easy to plan your entire vacation in one place, with just a few clicks.

Pros

  • Peer-to-peer RV rental marketplace which can keep prices lower for renters
  • Large inventory of diverse vehicles, especially towables
  • Insurance coverage of up to $1M liability
  • Delivery and one-way RV rental options available
  • U.S. based, but cross-border travel to Canada possible with owner permission

Cons

  • No hosts/vehicles based in Canada
  • No option for renters under 25 years of age

Standout Features

Where RVshare really shines: the filters. Our Fully Stocked RV filter allows you to narrow your search to RVs that offer all the basics, to simplify your packing strategy: linens, towels, basic cookware, and more will all be waiting for you in your rental. We also offer filters for specific amounts of generator hours or water tank size (perfect for boondockers), specific amenities like back-up cameras or slide-outs, and even an option to run a keyword search, which can help you find specific RV models. (Hello, dreamy Airstream rental!)

Unlike other peer-to-peer platforms, we also offer an easy-to-see “Guest Favorite” badge on highly rated listings, allowing you to easily pick out rental options that are highly likely to lead to a favorable experience.

Adventurers who want a one-stop shop to custom-build their dream vacation

Cruise America

The only non-peer-to-peer option on our list, Cruise America doesn’t operate like the other RV rental companies we’ve covered so far. Founded in 1972, Cruise America is a mainstay in American RV vacations, and while it lacks some of the features that make peer-to-peer interactions so special, it does offer its own benefits.

For example, shopping from a more limited rental fleet can be comforting for RV renters who want a perfectly predictable experience. Some renters are also comforted by the traditional model of walking into a brick-and-mortar rental facility and interacting with a customer service professional, rather than messaging with an individual person who owns an RV. Of course, the trade-off is lack of diversity in available vehicle models (Cruise America only stocks Class C motorhomes and select travel trailers). Additionally, you can only get a Cruise America vehicle from an actual branch location, which is far more limited than the peer-to-peer model.

Pros

  • Steadfast reputation among traditional RV rental companies in the U.S.
  • Predictable vehicle quality and type
  • Brick-and-mortar locations for those who find face-to-face customer service interactions comforting
  • Renters as young as 21 welcome (Cruise America)

Cons

  • Lack of vehicle diversity
  • Pick-up and drop-off locations limited to brick-and-mortar branch locations
  • No delivery or setup option
  • Fees may be higher than peer-to-peer options

Standout Features

Cruise America’s stand-out feature is its brick and mortar locations, which can be both a benefit and a drawback depending on your perspective.

Those for whom predictability and standardization is key

Airbnb

Okay, you caught us: Airbnb is decidedly not an RV rental company. (That said, many Airbnbs these days are RVs!) If you’re looking for a stationary stay in a motorhome or travel trailer, Airbnb can be a worthy alternative to consider. However, it’s not the platform to opt for if you’re hoping to orchestrate your own RV road trip.

Airbnb was founded all the way back in 2007, making it a trend-setting and road-paving (pun absolutely intended) model for many future peer-to-peer marketplaces, including RVshare and other peer-to-peer RV rental platforms. Of course, Airbnb’s initial model was about offering space in peoples’ homes, and has since expanded into a more traditional vacation rental space, with many Airbnbs being entire separate homes and apartments.

While Airbnb doesn’t offer mobile homes you can drive around, many Airbnbs are motorhomes and travel trailers parked in beautiful places, and for some travelers, this can be a great alternative to RVing, especially if you’re not looking to summit the RV driving learning curve. However, this is obviously a limiting option as far as a longer road trip is concerned: even with its relatively lower fees in some cases, hopping from Airbnb to Airbnb across many destinations can easily become a very expensive venture.

Pros

  • One of the original peer-to-peer marketplaces
  • Global implementation: you can find Airbnbs just about anywhere
  • Diversity of stay options ranging from houses and apartments to treehouses, yurts, and, yes, RVs
  • In some cases, costs can be lower than similar hotels thanks to the peer-to-peer model

Cons

  • Doesn’t make for an easy, one-vehicle road trip: you’d need to hop from Airbnb to Airbnb
  • Doesn’t offer mobile RVs you can drive
  • Fees can be high, comparable to hotels, and higher than RV rentals in some instances
  • Lack of predictability and hard-to-reach customer service

Standout Features

Without a doubt, Airbnb’s standout feature is its sheer scale: you can find Airbnbs of every shape, size, and type in more than 220 countries around the world.

What to Consider When Choosing an RV Rental Company

You’ve viewed our list for 2026, but as time goes on, the landscape will surely continue to evolve. So what are the main factors to consider when choosing an RV rental company? Here are our evergreen recommendations.

  • Diversity of vehicle type availability. One of the coolest things about the modern RV rental market is that you can rent just about any type of vehicle you can imagine, from tiny travel trailers up to luxurious Class A motorhomes. That said, each marketplace has its own limits, so consider how important diversity is to you as you begin your search.
  • Fee structure. It’s just a fact: Budget is one of the most important considerations for the majority of vacationers. Check out what you can about the fee structure of each marketplace you’re considering to help ensure you find the best bang for your buck.
  • Security. This includes insurance coverage as well as the security of the platform. Whenever you’re using your credit card on the internet (and interacting with strangers), it’s important to ensure that the platform you’re using is operating at a high industry standard as far as digital security is concerned — and, of course, protecting your finances with robust insurance coverage for both liability and damages. You should also consider roadside assistance coverage during the duration of your rental, because life just does throw surprises at us on the road!
  • User reviews. TrustPilot, Google Reviews, and other outlets can help you get a handle on how others’ experiences have gone.
  • Geographical location. Everyone wants to travel in different places! If you’re looking to take a road trip in a specific part of the world, be sure that the rental company you’re choosing operates there.
  • Additional features. Filters, options for younger drivers, built-in campground directories: as RV rental marketplaces continue to expand and compete with each other, more and more additional features will show up. Look for the ones that are most important for you and your travel style!

Best RV Rental Companies 2026: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rent an RV?

It varies widely, but on the peer-to-peer market, some types of RVs can be available to rent for less than $100 per night. Larger, more luxurious vehicles may fetch closer to $200 per night, but often weekly discounts are available for longer-term rentals.

Can you drive an RV rental from the U.S. to Canada?

Yes, but it depends on the company you rent from (and, if you’re renting on the peer-to-peer market, the host). Always double-check with both the rental platform or company itself and, if you’re renting from an individual through a peer-to-peer platform, make sure you have their specific permission.

Is it safe to rent an RV from Outdoorsy or RVshare?

Yes. Peer-to-peer RV rental marketplaces use encryption technology and other safeguards to ensure that your information stays safe. Additionally, all conversations between hosts and renters are recorded on the secure platform, and user ratings offer transparency into host interactions and vehicle quality. Finally, peer-to-peer platforms like RVshare offer roadside assistance and insurance coverage to give you peace of mind throughout your entire trip.

Can you rent an RV for a one-way trip?

Yes! Many RV rental companies, including RVshare, make it easy to arrange a one-way RV rental, which can unlock the possibility of focusing all of your travel time on going one direction rather than needing to save time for the round trip. These RV rentals are also popular with families who are moving cross-country.

Can you rent an RV if you’re under 25?

Yes, but it depends on the rental platform you choose. Some RV rental companies, including Outdoorsy and Cruise America, allow renters as young as 21 to rent their vehicles (though availability may vary). In other instances, you’ll need to be at least 25 years old to rent an RV. In either case, you’ll need a valid driver’s license.

Methodology

RVshare looked at the three top peer-to-peer RV rental marketplaces as well as one of the leading commercial RV rental companies, adding in the leading peer-to-peer vacation rental platform as well. We compared inventory, diversity of RV availability, insurance coverage, fee structures and other platform-specific features to provide an unbiased look at each RV rental company and which specific instances it’s best suited for. We also reviewed TrustPilot user reviews as well as reddit commentary to glean additional insight from users. These findings are from September 2026.
