Miles Landing

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for 1 in every 10 acres of land in the U.S.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversees 245 million acres of public lands found in every state of the country. RVers can pursue outdoor activities on these lands, and many locations offer camping opportunities. Developed campgrounds offer some amenities such as showers, may require a reservation, and usually charge a small fee. Bureau of Land Management free camping is available at dispersed camping locations away from designated camping sites. They often have level spots to set up camp but no other amenities. When taking advantage of dispersed camping, the BLM asks that you use existing camping spots and fire rings if they exist to minimize disrupting the natural environment. Campers in Wyoming are typically permitted to stay at the same site on BLM land for up to 14 days within a given month. The BLM is responsible for preserving public lands for use now and in the future, so they also ask that you observe the "Leave No Trace" principles when camping on these lands. Miles Landing in Wyoming is a day-use area and does not have a BLM-designated campground. It is a popular location for fishing, boating, and picnicking. At this site, there is a boat ramp to access the North Platte River, picnic tables, and vault toilets. Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park are both north of Miles Landing, so this area may be a good stopping spot if you are headed to one of these parks from the south.
