Cottonwood Campground Wyoming

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for 1 in every 10 acres of land in the U.S.

Cottonwood Campground is a developed campsite that offers a secluded escape into alpine terrain for adventurers looking to get off the beaten path. Grand Teton National Park is just over 200 miles northwest, but Cottonwood Campground provides excellent access to the diverse natural wonders of Wyoming.

Nestled in the Green Mountain Recreation Area and managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Cottonwood Campground boasts 18 developed campsites with access to water, vault toilets, trash collection, and fire rings. Several of the sites can accommodate larger RVs. The terrain is rough and populated by deer, elk, and wild horses. Rock hunters can find jade and agate specimens around the mountain. Hiking and biking options around Green Mountain are excellent and vary from easy trails along the Green Mountain Loop Road to more arduous treks.

Planning your Cottonwood Campground Wyoming BLM trip

Keep in mind that Bureau of Land Management campgrounds provide a more remote experience than other developed RV campgrounds. While your RV will provide comfort and essential amenities, Wyoming remains a rugged environment requiring proper planning. Packing adequate food, cooking implements, and personal items will ensure you are not left without supplies while enjoying your adventure off the beaten path.

Green Mountain is 9,619 feet above sea level. Alpine temperatures and weather are unpredictable, so check reliable forecasts before heading out. Layering breathable and lightweight clothing will ensure you effectively regulate body temperature and avoid exposure. It is never safe to hike or explore alone. Make sure someone knows where your group is going and your planned arrival time.

Leave No Trace Leaf

Preserving the beauty of nature hinges on explorers following the principles of "Leave No Trace." Trash, food waste, and other refuse must be disposed of in designated receptacles at the campground or packed and transported out. Only use designated toilet facilities or a portable toilet on BLM lands. Bury solid waste at least 150 feet away from all water sources using the cathole method.
