Hiking and Biking
Split Rock Trail
Located in Jeffrey City, this trail is relatively quiet and offers gorgeous views of the area and the nearby rock formations.

Platte Creek Loop
Meandering through rolling hills in the nearby Casper Mountain County Park, this trail is popular with both hikers and mountain bikers.

Independence Rock Trail
Passing by the impressive Independence Rock, which stands more than 6,000 feet above sea level, this trail offers beautiful views, and visitors can also spot pioneer inscriptions carved into the rock.

Cottonwood Creek Dinosaur Trail
This short but somewhat slippery trail allows visitors to view dinosaur fossils, and interpretive signs offer information.

Johnny Behind the Rocks Trail
Hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders can often spot wildflowers along this trail during the spring and summer months.

Fishing and Boating
Many anglers head to Boysen State Park to boat and fish on the Boysen Reservoir. Common catches include trout, walleye, crappie, perch, and sauger. Anglers can also head to the South Pass City Historic Site to catch trout.
Climbing
Rock climbing options in the Green Mountain area are somewhat limited, but climbing enthusiasts can head to the nearby Lankin Dome to explore 11 traditional and sport route options. The area known as Sweetwater Rocks also offers several other traditional, sport, top rope, and aid climbing routes in a variety of difficulties.
Wildlife Viewing
As a herd management area, Green Mountain is a fantastic place to spot wildlife. Wild horses roam through the area, and visitors can also see deer, big horn sheep, antelope, moose, beavers, and a range of birds, including ducks, geese, hawks, songbirds, and grouse. Visitors to the area can also head to one of the nearby state parks, such as Boysen State Park, for more wildlife viewing and photography opportunities.
Picnicking
The Split Rock Historic Site offers a scenic picnic area with tables. Primitive restrooms and trash cans are available, and the area offers access to some hiking routes.
Rockhounding
Anyone interested in collecting rocks can find plenty to do at Green Mountain. The area contains natural deposits of agate and jade, and rock hunters can often bring some of these stones home.
