Ventana Wilderness boasts hundreds of designated trails for hiking and biking. While some of these trails pass through lush vegetation, others offer panoramic views of the open area.
Pine Ridge Trail
Pine Ridge Trail is one of the most popular hiking and biking trails in Ventana Wilderness. It snakes through the wilderness from the 5,000-foot-high Chew Ridge to the Big Sur Station. The trail has considerable elevation gains and losses, making it a challenging stretch even for experienced hikers.

Vicente Flat Trail
Vicente Flat Trail is the go-to path for guests who want to experience the beauty of Big Sur. It is conveniently situated across the highway from a campsite and offers stunning views of Cone Peak and the surrounding mountains.

Cone Peak Summit Trail
Cone Peak Summit Trail is an out-and-back path near Big Sur. The trail is open throughout the year and is ideal for hikers and bikers who enjoy birding.

Fishing and Boating
During a visit to Ventana Wilderness, anglers can catch bass, catfish, steelhead, and trout at the Aroyo Seco Recreation Area. Nearby Monterey Bay is a great deep-sea fishing spot for catching rockfish and salmon. Boating is allowed in both bodies of water.
Climbing
Climbing Ventana Cone in the heart of Ventana Wilderness is a popular activity at this BLM site. Ventana Cone offers multiple climbing routes, making it suitable for newbies and experienced climbers. Fall is the perfect time to enjoy climbing in the wilderness because of its favorable weather conditions.
Wildlife Viewing
Ventana Wilderness is abundant with wildlife, including mountain lions, opossums, and wild pigs. Avian creatures in the wilderness include California condors, American bald eagles, and pelicans.

All picnicking sites in Ventana Wilderness come with a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill. They also have maintained restrooms for your convenience.
