Nestled into the woods of south-central Wisconsin, Mirror Lake State Park sits on 2,200 acres of pure scenic beauty. The park is aptly named for its central point, Mirror Lake, which is often so calm that the surface perfectly reflects the wooded shoreline and surrounding cliffs, which measure up to 50 feet high. The park hosts three campgrounds and numerous picnic areas. In addition, the water is perfect for summer recreation. Even in the winter, as the park is open all year, recreational enthusiasts find snow sports popular in the park. You can stop by the summer concession stand and park office for souvenirs, clothing, water bottles, and more.

Merry Macs Campground is a 25-minute drive south of the state park. They provide 20, 30, or 50 amp service, as well as fire pits and picnic tables on every site. What to Do at
Mirror Lake State Park
From watching the wildlife and picnicking to swimming and hiking, Mirror Lake State Park has plenty of activities to enjoy. Bring your binoculars and camera to capture breathtaking views of nature. Pack your bathing suits and lifejackets to enjoy the calm lake. Grab a group and enjoy playing volleyball on a sandy court. Finally, relax in your campground around a campfire at the end of a fun-filled day.
Set out across miles of trails by foot or bicycle and take in the stunning views and adorable wildlife roaming around the park. On warm summer days, Mirror Lake is perfect for anglers, boaters, swimmers, and sunbathers.
Inside Mirror Lake State Park
Whether you’re hoping to enjoy recreational activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, boating, or winter sports – there’s something to keep every type of traveler entertained at Mirror Lake State Park.
Hiking : There are 28.4 miles of hiking trails within the state park, offering varying terrain and levels of difficulty. The most popular is the Echo Rock trail, which is a paved and accessible trail beginning near the Cliffwood campground or boat landing parking areas. A full list of trails can be viewedhere.
Biking : There are around nine miles of trails available for off-road bike enthusiasts that are open from May 1st - Oct 31st each year. These trails are all located on the south side of Fern Dell Road and have surfaces including sand, grass, and woodchips.
Fishing : Both Mirror Lake and Dell Creek offer exceptional fishing opportunities for visitors. There is an accessible fishing pier to the north of the boat launch and an accessible boardwalk with fishing access to the south. Anglers can expect to catch species such as trout, panfish, bass, walleye, and northern pike. Basic fishing equipment is available to use for free from the park office.
Boating, kayaking, and canoeing : The entirety of Mirror Lake is a slow-no-wake zone. Boat, canoe and kayak rentals are available in summer from the park concession stand, Mirror Lake Rentals.
Swimming : Mirror Lake has a 200-foot swimming beach with vault toilets located nearby, making it the perfect place to cool off in summer. Just keep in mind no lifeguards are on duty and pets are prohibited from entering the beach.
Winter activities : There are 17.4 miles of cross-country ski trails and 1.2 miles of trails for snowshoeing within the park. View the winter trails maphere. A state trail pass is required for skiers 16 years of age and older. Ice fishing is also a rewarding activity during the winter months.
Fishing
Dell Creek, which flows into Mirror Lake, and the lake itself offer excellent fishing opportunities. Trout fishing is popular in the creek, although with no breeding gravel, it relies on stocking. Anglers often find panfish, bass, walleye, and northern pike in the lake. The lake is a no-wake zone, making for calm waters. Accessible fishing piers sit alongside the boat launch, or you can cast from the nearby boardwalk.
Geocaching
The park has several geocaches hidden near the hiking trails. You can use your smartphone or GPS device to find one. Once you do, you can sign the logbook and take a souvenir.
Nature Watching
Dozens of bird species fly through the park, including songbirds, raptors, and waterfowl. There are several benches around the lake and hiking trails to relax while birders look for new species to add to their journals.
Flora and Fauna
Pines and oaks are prevalent in the wooded areas you can explore at the park. Wildflowers such as irises, trilliums, and lilies bloom in the spring and early summer, bringing a splash of color to the scenery. Common wildlife seen bounding through the area include white-tailed deer, squirrels, raccoons, rabbits, and occasional bobcats.
Hiking
More than 19 miles of trails wind through Mirror Lake State Park. The hiking trails range in length and difficulty level, with some paved and others not. The 2.3-mile Northwest Trail is the most challenging route in the park. On this excursion, you will traverse steep, rolling hills and travel through sandstone outcroppings. If you prefer winter sports, many of the trails are groomed for cross-country skiing once the snow flies.
Boating
A boat launch is available near the concession stand, where you can rent pontoon boats, stand-up paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks. There is also ice cream available for a quick treat before or after spending time on the water. The lake is a slow no-wake zone, making for lazy boating and casual enjoyment.
Swimming
A swimming beach on the shore of Mirror Lake provides visitors with a place to cool off, splash around, and get some sun. Vault toilets are available nearby.
Biking
Five of the multi-use trails in the park are designated for biking, giving riders more than nine miles to explore on two wheels. You are also allowed to cycle on the park roads and paths.
How to Get to
Mirror Lake State Park
From I-90, in either direction, take the Highway 23 exit and follow the road until you reach the park entrance.
Entering Mirror Lake State Park
Parking is available to guests near the swimming beach, at the boat launch, and in the three campgrounds for registered guests. A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is required to enter. Guests may purchase an annual pass or a daily admission pass. The cost of a daily pass is $8 for Wisconsin residents and $11 for non-residents.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mirror Lake State Park
Summer recreation in the park includes swimming and boating. Late spring and early fall boast milder temperatures that are comfortable for strenuous hiking or bike rides. During the winter, trails are groomed for cross-country skiing. Snowshoeing and sledding are also popular winter sports.
White-tailed deer, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, and many songbirds make their homes in the park. Bird watchers can also look out for raptors and waterfowl.
Mirror Lake State Park has three campgrounds with 151 RV camping sites. Sandstone Campground has 68 sites, Cliffwood Campground has 35, and Bluewater Bay Campground has 63.
A reservation is required before setting your equipment up on a campsite. You may reserve your spot up to 11 months in advance. Reservations can be made online, by phone, or in the park office. Non-electric sites cost $15 per night, and electric sites cost $30 per night.
Pets are welcome in designated areas at Mirror Lake State Park. A designated pet picnic area sits across the road from the beach picnic area. Pets are not allowed on the swimming beach or in other picnic areas.
