What to Do at
Turtle River State Park

Inside Turtle River State Park

When you visit Turtle River State Park, you will find 12 miles of hiking trails to trek on foot or to explore on a bike. Trails range in length from less than a mile to about 3 miles, so if you have experience, you can easily tackle more than a few trails during your visit. If you prefer to enjoy some fishing, the river is stocked so that you can practice different fishing techniques and still have a good chance of catching something. During the winter, sledding and cross-country skiing can also be enjoyed in the park.

Outside Turtle River State Park

In addition to the activities that you can enjoy inside Turtle River State Park, there are a lot of things that you can also enjoy nearby to make the most out of your time in the area. If you are looking for culture, check out some museums like the North Dakota Museum of Art, the Dakota Science Center, or the Empire Arts Center. Kids will love to spend some time at Splashers of the South Seas, an indoor water park located in Grand Forks.

Hatton-Eielson Museum

The Hatton-Eielson Museum focuses on the life and the childhood home of Carl Ben Eielson, a great pilot in aviation history. The museum holds airplanes that he flew, which are stored in the hangar. There are tours available during the afternoon on Sundays or with an appointment.

Goose River Heritage Center Museum

The Goose River Heritage Center Museum was built in 1897 as a railway depot. It houses a schoolhouse, a barbershop, and several other buildings. In 1977, the location was listed on the National Register of Historic Places so that it is protected for future generations to see.

How to Get to
Turtle River State Park

From Grand Forks, travel west on US-2 for about 20 miles. Then, turn right onto Park Ave NE, and follow signs to the parking area.
