Lake Louise State Park is an 849-acre park in southeastern Minnesota that features a mix of woodlands, savanna and meadows. Lake Louise is a historic mill pond located at the confluence of the Upper Iowa and Little Iowa Rivers and is the focal point of the park. It was created in the 1800’s when settlers needed to power a gristmill via a dam on the Upper Iowa River. Today visitors are able to enjoy fishing, canoeing and kayaking on the lake as well as hiking and biking on several trails. In the winter, the park’s flat terrain is the perfect spot for beginner cross-country skiers and makes for great snowmobiling.

RV Resorts & Campsites in Lake Louise State Park
Lake Louise Campground is the only campground in the park and features 20 campsites with 11 of these having electrical hookups. Each campsite has a maximum RV length of 45 feet and includes a fire ring with a grill and a picnic table. While there are no sewer hookups or Wi-Fi in Lake Louise Campground, there are showers and a dump station.
What to Do at
Lake Louise State Park
While Lake Louise State Park is known for its tranquility, there is still plenty to do within its boundaries. Visitors can go for a swim in the lake, lie on the sandy beach, hike one of the numerous trails or go horseback riding through the flat prairie lands. Lake Louise State Park is also home to terrific fishing opportunities as well as providing access to the Shooting Star State Trail. The spring and summer seasons offer an excellent opportunity to view countless wildflowers while countless migratory bird species pass through the park as well.
Fishing
The park offers many shore fishing opportunities as well as the ability to launch a kayak or canoe to gain access to Lake Louise. Anglers can expect to catch largemouth bass, crappie and a variety of other fish. A state of Minnesota fishing license is required.
Nature Watching
The unique terrain of the park provides a home to a variety of wildlife, including fox squirrel, raccoon, beaver, deer and over 141 reported species of birds.
Stargazing
Lake Louise State Park is located in a rural area of southeastern Minnesota, far away from the light pollution of the big city. This makes it easy to spot your favorite constellations in the night sky.
Hiking
The park features three hiking trails that cover approximately 5.5 miles. All three are considered to be flat, making them perfect for hikers of all abilities. The Wildwood Loop doubles as the Hiking Club Trail and takes you through a closed canopy woodland with lush plant life and vibrant spring wildflowers.
Boating
There is no boat launch for motorized boats to gain access to Lake Louise. However, you can get a canoe or kayak onto the water.
Swimming
A designated swimming area with a sandy beach is found on the south end of the park. There is also a parking lot and picnic area in this location.
Biking
Lake Louise State Park includes the Shooting Star State Trail, which is a 20-mile paved trail that travels from LeRoy to Rose Creek. This scenic path passes through woodlands, meadows and rural farmland.
How to Get to
Lake Louise State Park
Lake Louise State Park is located at 12385 766th Ave, LeRoy, MN 55951. If you are traveling to the park via Rochester, MN, you can take US-63 towards Frankford Township. When you get to MN-16 W, make a right-hand turn and then turn left onto 770 Ave. Once on 770 Ave, you will drive for 12 miles and then turn right onto 766th Ave. The park entrance will be on your right-hand side.
Entering Lake Louise State Park
Lake Louise State Park is open year-round from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. while the campground operates between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. As you enter the park, you will come across a parking lot on your right before a fork in the road. If you stay to the left, you will drive to the day-use area which includes the swimming area and picnic shelter. Take a right turn at the fork to head towards the campground. You will find parking areas in the day-use section as well as at the campground.
