Clifty Falls State Park encompasses 1,416 acres of land in southeast Indiana overlooking the Ohio River. More than 370,000 visitors come to the park each year who come to see the beautiful waterfalls, hike the numerous nature trails, or look out over Clifty Canyon. The waterfalls for which the park is named can be anything from a trickle to a thunderous downpour depending on the season and the weather. There are four named waterfalls within the park which range from 60 to 83 feet in height. There are also visible fossil remnants lining the bed of Clifty Creek that show some of the marine life that existed there years ago.

Tandy’s RiverView Park
A neat little campground situated right next to the Ohio River, Tandy’s is another great place to stay during your visit to the Madison area. Clifty Falls State Park
Clifty Falls State Park is known first and foremost for the four named waterfalls found inside the park's border. There are more than 12 miles of moderate to rugged trails throughout the park that lead you through the Clifty Canyon and alongside each of the waterfalls. There are also numerous playgrounds and play areas scattered throughout the park along with beach areas and a public swimming pool so that there is plenty to do for kids too. The combination of outdoor activities, scenic beauty, and updated campgrounds make Clifty Falls State Park an enjoyable place for people of all ages to visit.

Walking and Hiking — Walking and hiking are some of the very best outdoor activities. A good hike allows you to really connect with nature while getting in some exercise and breathing some fresh air. Lucky for you, Clifty Falls State Park offers plenty of awesome trails. Whether you’re a hiking beginner or a pro, there is a trail for you in this beautiful park.
Swimming — Need to cool off on a hot summer day? This state park boasts a lovely swimming pool that guests absolutely adore. Bring your suit and some sunscreen, then go ahead and hop in. You’ll be happy to cool off, and the kids will have a blast.
Tennis — There’s nothing quite like a rousing game of tennis to get your blood pumping and lift your spirits. Why not get your tennis game on during your visit to Clifty Falls? This park offers a full and well-kept tennis court, along with places to participate in a few other types of sports and games.

Fishing
There are a few fishing holes in Clifty Falls State Park where mostly largemouth bass can be caught. The Ohio River is very close by along with a few other lakes so there is ample fishing available in the surrounding area.
Geocaching
There are multiple geocaches registered and hidden throughout Clifty Falls State Park. Make sure to bring your smartphone or GPS device to search for the hidden treasures and trinkets scattered throughout the park.
Nature Watching
Nature watching is one of the primary adventures available for visitors to the park. There is a viewing platform overlooking the Ohio River, scenic views as you travel to the falls, and a beautiful canyon gorge in the middle of the park.
Stargazing
Scattered throughout the 1,519 acres of Clifty Falls State Park are numerous campsites and areas of unobstructed views of the nighttime sky. With the Ohio River and Clifty Canyon as a backdrop, stargazing is something everyone who camps at Clifty Falls State Park can enjoy.
Hiking
There are more than 12 miles of moderate and rugged hiking trails within the border of Clifty Falls State Park. Some of the trails feature difficult terrain and steep inclines while others are paved and flat. The hiking trails that lead into and out of the Clifty Canyon gorge are the most difficult.
Boating
Kayaking and canoeing are both great ways to explore the scenic wonder of Clifty Falls State Park. You can rent a kayak from the nature center at the park and you can also sign up to take professionally guided kayak tours as well.
Swimming
There is a public swimming pool and beach areas located throughout the park. There is a nominal fee to use the pool, but access to the beach areas is included with the entry fee. Visitors are asked not to enter the water around the waterfalls.
Biking
There are paved roads that you can ride on. Unless otherwise stated, bikes are not allowed on the hiking trails.
How to Get to
Clifty Falls State Park
Clifty Falls State Park is just west of Madison, IN and runs alongside the Ohio River. There are two entrances to the park, the north entrance and the south entrance. The north entrance gate is located off State Road 62 or Clifty Road, and the south entrance is located off State Road 56 or the Ohio Scenic River Byway.
Entering Clifty Falls State Park
Parking lots are located throughout the park and close to the majority of the attractions inside the park. There is a $7 entry fee per vehicle for cars with in-state license plates and a $9 entry fee for vehicles with out-of-state license plates. Pedestrians and bicyclists must pay a $2 entrance fee.

Frequently Asked Questions About Clifty Falls State Park
Winter and spring seasons allow visitors to see the waterfalls at their best. The falls change quite a bit depending on rainfall and temperature, and late winter and early spring are when the falls flow the strongest.
Some of the wildlife that visitors may see at the park include deer, wild turkeys, foxes, and weasels. For those visitors interested in birding, there are numerous species of songbirds, hawks, and vultures.
There are 106 RV campsites located in Clifty Falls State Park with electric, water, and sewer hookups. The campsites are all located together in a quiet and open area of the park near some of the park's attractions.
Reservations are recommended. The cost between late April and early November is between $23 and $33. If you camp during the winter, the cost is lower, and there are fewer amenities and features offered to campers.
Pets are allowed in the park but must be attended to at all times and have to be on a leash no longer than six feet. You are also expected to clean up after your furry family members.
