Located 1.2 miles south of downtown Layton and 7.2 miles from Duck Key, Long Key State Park is a luxurious destination for swimming, bird-watching, kayaking, or just relaxing along the shoreline. When you visit, you'll enjoy the mild tropical climate where the four-season temperatures rarely differ more than about 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit. This island in the Florida Keys is also known for its amazing sunrises. The town of Islamorada is about 15 miles from the state park, making it the ideal place for dining, entertaining, shopping, and so much more.

Long Key State Park
Inside Long Key State Park
Long Key State Park is the perfect place to go boating, birdwatching, hiking, swimming, and simply enjoy the coastal rays. Many visitors enjoy relaxing on the shoreline as they gaze across the Atlantic Ocean into the sunset. If you're up for a hike, trek through the Layton Trail or Golden Orb Trail, which goes through various plant communities on the island.
Outside Long Key State Park
There is just as much to do outside of the state park. Attractions, restaurants, and shops galore are in the nearby cities of Layton, Duck Key, and Islamorada. No matter which direction you travel on Florida's Overseas Highway, you'll find plenty to see and do.

How to Get to
Long Key State Park
You can easily get to the Florida Keys by taking US Highway 1, which is also known as the Overseas Highway. From Miami, you'll travel for about an hour south on the highway. Once you get to Key Largo, you'll turn right to continue on US Highway 1. Long Key State Park is another 30 miles southwest from there. Follow signs to get to the state park off the highway.

Frequently Asked Questions About Long Key State Park
Long Key State Park has a very warm climate all year long. It can regularly be as hot as 85 degrees during the summer months, and even during winter, the temperature typically stays above 60.
The most comfortable times to visit Long Key State Park are the early spring and late fall. During months like March, April, and November, it'll be warm without being too hot, and the odds of encountering rain will be slim.
At Long Key State Park, the on-site campground has 60 designated RV campsites available. The park's RV campsites have water and electric hookups and can accommodate RVs as large as 45 feet.
Long Key State Park is a great destination for viewing interesting aquatic life, including loggerhead and green sea turtles, horseshoe crabs, and sea stars. The park is also home to birds such as herons, egrets, and ibises.
You can bring your pets along with you to Long Key State Park Campground, but they must always be kept on leashes of no more than six feet when you're outside your vehicle.
