Farmington is a city in New Mexico's San Juan County. Originally, the area that is now Farmington was inhabited by the Ancestral Pueblo Native Americans, who lived in the region as far back as the seventh century. The new settlement, which was originally named Junction City, was established in the late 19th century. In 1901, the town's name was changed to Farmington, and the city was officially incorporated. At that time, the population was 548. When a railroad was completed connecting Farmington to Durango, Colorado in 1905, it led to significant economic growth in the area. Farmington remained a fairly small town until the 1950s when the population quickly shot up above 30,000.

As of 2023, the population of Farmington is approximately 47,000. While visiting the city, you could start by checking out a few of the lovely outdoor spaces. There's the Riverside Nature Center, where you can explore the tranquil nature trails and observe the local wildlife. You could also go mountain biking at Lions Wilderness Park, play a round at Piñon Hills Golf Course, or navigate the scenic trails of Berg Park. If you prefer having fun on the water, Lake Farmington is an excellent spot for boating and fishing.

Farmington offers plenty of indoor recreation as well. For example, you could stop by the E3 Children's Museum & Science Center with the whole family for a fun, educational afternoon. Alternatively, you could learn more about the city at the Farmington Museum or do a bit of gambling at the Northern Edge Casino. When you get hungry, a couple of excellent dining options are the Si Señor Restaurant and The Chile Pod.
