Farmington is a city in New Mexico's San Juan County. Originally, the area that is now Farmington was inhabited by the Ancestral Pueblo Native Americans, who lived in the region as far back as the seventh century. The new settlement, which was originally named Junction City, was established in the late 19th century. In 1901, the town's name was changed to Farmington, and the city was officially incorporated. San Juan National Forest is a beautiful 1.8-million-acre forest featuring stunning landscapes and superb recreational opportunities. The massive forest contains majestic Rocky Mountain peaks, picturesque desert mesas, and dense woodlands.
