Channahon is a village in Grundy and Will counties in Illinois. The name Channahon is derived from a Native American meaning "the meeting of the waters," referring to the confluence of the Des Plaines and Illinois rivers. The village is located on the I&M Canal, which played an essential role in the community's early growth. In 1832, the first canal boat arrived in Channahon, and by 1841, the village had a population of about 200. During the 1920s, the construction of a new highway through Channahon led to a period of rapid growth, and the village was incorporated in 1961.
