Parks in Buford, Georgia

Fort Yargo State Park

Around a 40-minute drive south-east of the city is the popular Fort Yargo State Park, which features a historic 1792 log fort built by settlers seeking protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. This family-friendly and somewhat glamorous state park also offers the option of renting lakeside “glamping” yurts, which come complete with furniture and operating electricity. Other recreational activities here include swimming, fishing, and boating in the large lake, as well as biking and hiking.

Don Carter State Park

Rated as moderate difficulty, the trail is accessible year-round. Pack your swimming costume in the warmer months if you fancy a dip in the swimming beach on your travels!

Ivy Creek Greenway to Wildlife Observation Trail

No visit to Buford is complete without walking the Ivy Creek Greenway to Wildlife Observation Trail. This 5.1 kilometer heavily trafficked loop trail is rated as easy, making it a great walk for persons of all ages and abilities. It’s mostly paved and offers great natural scenery.
