Fishing and Boating
Fishing in the river is a popular activity. The most common fish to catch here are trout, salmon, and steelhead. Anyone fishing over the age of 18 needs an Oregon fishing license. A license is not required for children younger than 12. There are plenty of fishing opportunities in Reedsport. There is no boating at the BLM Smith River Falls campground. However, you can enjoy boating activities nearby at the BLM Loon Lake Recreation Site. A boat ramp is available. Boat ramps are also available at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.
Wildlife Viewing
In addition to spotting Bald Eagles at Smith River Falls, you'll find even more opportunities on the Oregon coast to see wildlife. One such option is at the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area. This area is home to about 100 Roosevelt Elk who remain there all year. You may also see beavers, coyotes, and geese here. At Bolon Island, bird-watchers may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a double-crested cormorant or another rare bird.
Picnicking
When you need a break from the outdoor activities but not a break from the outdoors, a picnic is a perfect solution. You'll find picnic tables at Lions Park in Reedsport. This neighborhood park also has a playground for kids to play on while the adults are busy planning the rest of the day. If you'd like to dine with a beautiful view, travel to the Tahkenitch Landing Picnic Area. It's right next to the lake, and public restrooms are available.
Beach Exploration
If you love the beach, this is the perfect region for you. There are a ton of coastal activities you can enjoy. You can collect seashells, try crabbing or clamming, or fly kites. If you like to be in motion, you can go for a long walk on the beach. If you enjoy wildlife viewing, keep your eyes out for a migrating gray whale. Tour the lighthouse. If you need a moment to relax, just sit on the beach and watch the sunset.
