Hiking and Biking
Posey and Beauty Lake Loop
This trail begins near the city of Chester and is perfect for backpacking and hiking. There's a small bathroom near the start of the trail, but the road leading to it is rough and unpaved. As you make your way around, you'll have amazing views of the surrounding landscape as well as the local wildlife.

Gem Lake
Try out Gem Lake if you're looking to get away from the crowds. This trail is perfect for camping and hiking and allows dogs on a leash. Visit during the summer months to catch amazing views of the local wildlife. You're sure to enjoy the tall pine trees, lava rock formations, and manzanita bushes.

Cinder Cone Nature Trail
If you're looking for a hiking challenge, look no further than Cinder Cone Nature Trail. This one-of-a-kind trail starts near Butte Lake Campground and offers unique views of the mountain and surrounding land. The trail consists of a lot of sand and loose rock, which can make it hard to find your footing. After you make your way up the steep ascent, you'll see the gorgeous Lassen Peak in the distance.

Fishing & Boating
Emerson Lake is a local hotspot for fishing and boating. You'll find an abundance of brook trout, northern pike, and bream. Honey Lake, Eagle Lake, and Lake Almanor can also be used for fishing. Always check with the local wildlife department on the day of your trip for updates and closings.
Climbing
Lassen National Volcanic Park contains a variety of peaks and ridges for you to climb and explore. From Mount Harkness to Cinder Cone to Lassen Peak, you'll find plenty of exhilarating climbing opportunities in the area. Always bring the right clothes and gear before heading out on your climbing adventure.
Wildlife Viewing
The northern parts of California are covered in abundant forest and fauna. Bobcats, black-tailed deer, and elk thrive due to this flourishing greenery. You may also see black bears, eagles, and cougars. Practice safe hiking habits by minimizing your interactions with local wildlife.
Picnicking
Established picnicking spots are easily found near campgrounds and rest areas. You can also spread out your lunch right off a trail to enjoy the vibrant sounds of nature around you. Pack up any garbage when you leave and be courteous to fellow hikers and campers.
Stargazing
With so many peaks and ridges, you'll never have a better time to view the stars than when you visit the area around the Eagle Lake Field Office. You don't have to worry about the smoke and smog of a big city ruining your view of the sky. You might even catch a glimpse of an elusive shooting star.
