West Fork Campground

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for 1 in every 10 acres of land in the U.S.

The Bureau of Land Management's main objective is to protect and conserve natural, historic, and cultural resources for use by present and future generations. BLM camping is highly promoted in Alaska by the local government and residents. The Bureau offers free camping services, but some sites charge a small fee to help maintain their respective locations. Look up “BLM camping near me” to find BLM sites in your area.

West Fork Campground is one of the most notable Bureau of Land Management campgrounds in the Fortymile National and Scenic River region and the whole of western Alaska. This campground is a remote site in a forested and rugged area featuring a few rivers and creeks. The campground’s ecosystem makes it a top destination for hiking, biking, fishing, camping, OHVing, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor activities. The nearest national park to West Fork Campground, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Reserve, is 123 miles away. Other popular attractions near this Bureau of Land Management free camping site are Chena River State Recreation Area and Steese National Conservation Area.
