Meteor Crater RV Park is perfectly situated for enjoying the wide open desert country of Arizona, while being close to the Grand Canyon and the city center of Flagstaff. Just 30 minutes east of Flagstaff, Meteor Crater RV Park is also only two hours from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and one hour and 30 minutes from Sedona. Right off of I-40, this Grand Canyon RV park is a great jumping off point for exploring the many natural wonders of Northern Arizona, and it’s also great for heading through Navajo Nation and into New Mexico.
Aside from being perfectly located for a trip to the Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona, Meteor Crater RV Park also has an astounding number of amenities. It’s almost a small town in itself. From a visitor’s center, an interactive discovery center, and a theater and subway shop to hiking Route 66, which borders the RV park, and a dog park, you and the family will find it easy to occupy your time at Meteor Crater RV Park. But perhaps the most unique, intriguing thing about this RV park is the fact that it sits on the site of an old meteor impact, complete with a museum. While there, you’re very likely to spot a shooting star, due to its location, wide open spaces, and incredible night sky views.

“The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, even though they were very busy they were warm and inviting. The RV park was set up nicely and is centrally located to just about everything. They have buses that run to the RV camping area and take you just about everywhere in the park. A big plus! Grocery store and market are within working walking distance. Our stay was a wonderful experience. We had elk walk through the first day there. For the most part, the campers were respectful and polite. The park did an amazing job making this area a camping trip to remember.” – Lorena Sims, Google Review

Located just 15 miles north of downtown Phoenix, this park is the most convenient place to stay if you want to easily explore Arizona’s most populous cities without having to stay in the middle of it all. While it puts you a distance away from the Grand Canyon, many people prefer to fly into this metro area and stay here while doing a one or two day trip to the Grand Canyon, especially because Arizona has a special bus, the Bundu Bus, that runs between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon. This park is located in a mountainous desert shaded by palm trees and citrus trees. Its location offers beautiful sunrises and sunsets. This park is a 55+ park, however, so, unfortunately, it’s not open to everyone.
For RV travelers over 55 who are looking for a place to get away, relax, and stay in a park amongst their peers, this seniors-only RV park is ideal. Just a short drive from the Phoenix city center and a few minutes from shopping and dining, it has the feel of a remote desert location while being extremely convenient to all the amenities of a major metropolitan area. The park offers up lots of activities and events for residents, including shuffleboard tournaments, billiards, water exercise, puzzles, social hour, potlucks, bingo, casino trips, ladies luncheons, and more. There’s always something going on in this desert retreat.

Visiting the Grand Canyon is a once in a lifetime experience. There’s no better way to experience its majesty than on an RV trip with the whole family through Northern Arizona.
Each of these parks offers something unique, but all are great options for people who want to be close to the Grand Canyon. Some are situated right within the park for people who want to get the most out of their time at the Grand Canyon. For those who prefer a greater diversity of experiences, parks near Flagstaff and Phoenix are great options, allowing visitors to do a day trip to the Grand Canyon while still exploring other areas.
It’s also important to consider the level of comfort you’re looking for. Many of these RV parks offer resort-style experiences, where you have access not just to full hookups, but to laundry facilities, game rooms, pools, hot showers, exercise centers, and more. There are a few, however, particularly as you get closer to the Grand Canyon, that are very bare bones. While these involve a little more preparation, they are worth it for people who want to immerse themselves in nature.
