If you want to stay inside Grand Canyon National Park, waking up to brilliant sunrises over the canyon and relaxing with sunset views each day, the South Rim is the place to do it. There are three lodging options within the park – two in the busy Grand Canyon Village, and one more remote campground, Desert View Campground, 25 miles east of Grand Canyon Village. Trailer Village, within Grand Canyon Village, is the only campground inside the national park on the south rim that offers RV hookups. For that reason, the information below pertains to Trailer Village RV Park, but there is additional tent camping in other places.

Located just 15 miles north of downtown Phoenix, this park is the most convenient place to stay if you want to easily explore Arizona’s most populous cities without having to stay in the middle of it all. While it puts you a distance away from the Grand Canyon, many people prefer to fly into this metro area and stay here while doing a one or two day trip to the Grand Canyon, especially because Arizona has a special bus, the Bundu Bus, that runs between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon. This park is located in a mountainous desert shaded by palm trees and citrus trees. Its location offers beautiful sunrises and sunsets. This park is a 55+ park, however, so, unfortunately, it’s not open to everyone.

It’s a great option for those who want to stay a little further from the main tourist hub within the Grand Canyon while still having easy access to the area’s amenities and astounding views. The grounds are near the eastern edge of the Grand Canyon along Desert View Drive, a scenic highway that connects the area with Grand Canyon Village.

This NPS campground and RV Park is one of the most highly rated RV parks in all of Arizona, and it’s right at the doorstep of the Grand Canyon.
