Lake Bomoseen State Park spans 3,576 acres along the shores of Lake Bomoseen and is a short distance from Glen Lake in Vermont. The Taconic Mountains, which are a sub-range of the Appalachian Mountains, cross through the landscape. Visitors to the 2,400-acre glacial lake can access the water via a beach area and a boat launch. The park opened in 1960 after the land was donated to the state in 1959. It offers a self-guided tour focused on the land’s previous use as a slate quarry, and it also has night hikes, nature crafts and campfire programs led by an interpreter.

RV Resorts & Campsites in Lake Bomoseen State Park
Lake Bomoseen State Park has 55 campsites for tents and RVs. Each campsite has a picnic table and a grill. The maximum RV length is 34 feet. No hookups are available at any of the campsites. Water is easily accessible from a community faucet. The campground has a dump station, coin-operated hot showers and flush toilets. Additional amenities are sheltered picnic tables, a horseshoe pit, concessions, a playground and a volleyball court.

Lake Bomoseen State Park
Lake Bomoseen State Park is a popular summertime destination with recreational activities available on land and water. You can check out the landscape and look for wildlife while hiking through the woods. If you want to get on the water, you can take advantage of the state park’s large swim area and boat launch. Rentals are available at the concession stand for kayaks, row boats, pedal boats and canoes. Lake Bomoseen also is recognized for its great fishing.
Fishing
The crisp waters of Lake Bomoseen are home to bass, perch and trout. Fishing is permitted at Lake Bomoseen State Park along the shoreline, except in the swimming area. Non-motorized boat rentals also make it easy to cast your line far from shore.
Geocaching

Nature Watching
Many birds nest in the area and may be observed seasonally, including wood ducks, mallard ducks, bald eagles, great blue herons, cardinals, catbirds, hawks and others. Other animals that you may spot in Lake Bomoseen State Park are opossums, snowshoe hares, minks, bobcats, muskrats, foxes, moose, otters, skunks, shrews and fishers.
Hiking
From the campground, you can take a scenic hike around the Bomoseen Loop Trail to enjoy lake views from a higher elevation. The Slate History Trail is an interpretive trail that links Glen Lake and Lake Bomoseen. It connects to the waterfront Glen Lake Trail and the High Pond Trail.
Swimming
Lake Bomoseen State Park has a wide, sandy beach with a gentle descent into the water. The water is clear and calm, making it suitable for adults and children to enjoy. A concession stand offering beverages and snacks is close to the beach.
Boating
The park’s boat launch makes it easy to get your vessel on the water. If you do not have a boat or want a different experience on the lake, boat rentals are available at the concession stand. The rental options include canoes, kayaks, row boats and pedal boats.
How to Get to
Lake Bomoseen State Park
Lake Bomoseen State Park is located in western Vermont roughly five miles north of Fair Haven. Fair Haven sits between Rutland and White Hall on Highway 4. From Fair Haven, take Highway 4 east to Creek Road. Follow Creek Road north along the shoreline of Lake Bomoseen. This road turns into W. Castleton Road. From W. Castleton Road, turn right to enter the state park.
Entering Lake Bomoseen State Park
The park is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend from 10 a.m. until sunset. Handicap-accessible parking is located near the beach and the park office.

Lake Bomoseen State Park is only open during the summer months between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

The park is also home to fishers, shrews, skunks, otters, moose, foxes, muskrats, bobcats, minks, hares and opossums.
Lake Bomoseen State Park’s camping sites all allow both tent and RV camping.
Reservations are suggested but not required at Lake Bomoseen State Park. Reservations can be made online with a non-refundable reservation fee of $8. The base rate is $20 to $28 nightly, and additional fees apply for pets, more than four campers per site and prime camping spots.
Pets are welcome at Lake Bomoseen State Park, but they are not allowed in the swimming area. They must remain on a leash while in the park.
