The West Whitlock Recreation Area is one of the favorite parks along Lake Oahe. West Whitlock covers 260 acres of a peninsula jutting into Lake Oahe, a 370,000-acre reservoir created by the Oahe Dam that helps control the Missouri River. The park is so popular that Gettysburg, SD, which is 18 miles east, claims it as a part of its town identity. Located near the center of South Dakota, the park is an easy drive from large urban areas like Pierre and Aberdeen, SD.
