Great Salt Plains State Park is a vast public recreation area you can find eight miles north of Jet, Oklahoma. It contains a massive total land area of 9,300 acres and 41 miles of beautiful shoreline that come together to offer an unforgettable experience in the great outdoors. The state park has its name because the area is covered by a layer of salt that was deposited a long time ago by an inland sea. The first people to ever occupy the area were members of the Sibley expedition in 1811, and it's now governed by the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. Some exciting recreational opportunities you can enjoy here include swimming, hiking, boating, mountain biking, and exploring. Three cities located near Great Salt Plains State Park include Cherokee, Enid, and Ponca City.

How to Get to
Great Salt Plains State Park
Two major US cities located close to Great Salt Plains State Park include Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Kansas City, Kansas. On the way from Oklahoma City, start by getting onto I-40 W from S E K Gaylord Blvd and S Shields Blvd. Take OK-74 N and OK-51 W to OK-132 N in Kingfisher County, then turn right onto OK-132 N. Turn right onto US-412 E/US-60 E, turn left onto OK-132 N, then turn left onto US-64 W. Follow N2730 Rd and OK-38 N to P12 Rd to arrive at the destination.
On the way from Kansas City, start by getting onto I-35 S from Truman Rd. Follow I-35 S to OK-11 W/W Doolin Ave in Blackwell, then take exit 222 from I-35. Continue on OK-11 W. Drive to P12 Rd in Alfalfa County to arrive at the destination.
