Geode State Park is named after Iowa's state rock and is a beautiful destination in southeast Iowa. The park is located just six miles northeast of Danville, nine miles from New London, and 16.5 miles west of Burlington. A display of geodes with mysterious crystal formation in their hollow cavities can be seen at the park office. Lake Geode is a focal point of the state park with more than 150 acres for water activities. The state park is filled with nature trails, wildlife, mature trees, and beautiful landscapes.

Welter Recreation Area
Welter Recreation Area is located off the quiet banks of Skunk River. The 63-acre campground works on a first-come, first-served basis for all of their campsites. All sites can accommodate any size of RV, tent, or camper. The sites are located near restrooms and camp recreational activities.

Crossroad RV Park

Inside Geode State Park
Geode State Park has various hiking trails around the lake where you can observe and enjoy the natural beauty of the park and watch the wildlife. Anglers will be highly impressed by the shoreline fishing and boating opportunities. Water enthusiasts will have a blast jet skiing, boating, and water skiing. Children and those young at heart can have fun at the playground. Bird-watching is always a pleasant pastime at the state park.

Flint River Trail
Flint River Trail provides a relaxed atmosphere where you can explore and observe the outdoors. When the trail is completed, it will extend about 18 miles in length from downtown Burlington to Big Hollow Recreation Area. Donations are being accepted to help complete the remaining part of the trail and keep it maintained.

Starr's Cave Nature Center
This 184-acre preserve offers two miles of scenic hiking trails, rock formations, bluffs, and more. Starr's Cave Nature Center permits cross-country skiing when there are at least 4 inches of snow on the ground. The natural Starr's Cave is closed to protect the bats; however, two manmade caves can be explored: Crinoid Cavern and Devil's Kitchen.

Observe historical artifacts of New London and the surrounding areas at Dover Museum. The museum is open May through October on Saturday & Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment. It is free to enter and explore, but donations are appreciated and accepted to help maintain the museum.

Hunt Woods Recreation Area
Hunt Woods Recreation Area is a 58-acre forest where you can go hiking, picnicking, and observe wildlife. Hunting is permitted, but with its proximity to residential properties, the use of slugs or rifles is prohibited.

The Theatre Museum
Memorabilia and artifacts of the early theatre are preserved and kept in good shape at The Theatre Museum. The collection includes scene pieces, painted curtains, costumes worn by professional performers, and equipment used by performers and technicians.

How to Get to
Geode State Park
From Danville, head south on South Main Street toward East Dewey Street and continue onto Danville Road. Travel for less than two miles, and then turn right onto Country Road/Iowa Highway 79. Drive for about three miles, and the road will change to Racine Avenue. From there, just follow the signs to the park.

Birdwatching is a popular pastime for visitors at Geode State Park. Many avian species are known to nest in the area, including broad-winged hawks, black-billed cuckoos, wood thrushes, pileated woodpeckers, turkey vultures, and northern cardinals.
Geode State Park is home to a huge campground with 186 total campsites. The campsites are quite diverse, and 96 of them are designated RV sites with electrical hookups. Plus, there's a dump station available at the campground.
Your pets are welcome in Geode State Park as long as they stay on standard leashes at all times. You'll also need to clean up your pet's waste, and you can throw it away in the provided receptacles.
The climate of the park is pretty moderate. The summers can be as warm as 86 degrees, and the winters hover between 18 and 36. There's occasional rainfall throughout the year, and the winters see a fair bit of snowfall.
Geode State Park offers multiple accommodations for disabled guests. For one, the campground features two ADA-accessible camp pads. Additionally, the park contains a Beach Shelter that's ADA-accessible and boasts a well-equipped kitchenette.
