Known for displaying a 1920s-era gristmill and ginning house, Hamburg State Park serves as a peaceful, relaxing getaway. This state park offers a fantastic mix of history and outdoor recreation, all centered around the Hamburg Mill Pond. When visiting, you'll love the mild temperatures, but you may want to bring a sweater or jacket for the chilly nights. Hamburg State Park is about six miles west of Mitchell and seven miles south of Jewell. The nearest mid-sized city is Augusta, which is 54 miles east along Georgia's border with South Carolina.

Warthen RV Park is located about 10 miles south of Hamburg State Park, making it the perfect place to see and explore the area. Boss's RV Park
Boss's RV Park is just 12 miles from Louisville, the former state capital of Georgia, and about 40 minutes west of the park. There are shade trees to help keep you cool on hot days and a large pavilion area with picnic tables that are great for large gatherings. The open area allows plenty of room for walking, jogging, or biking. The campground has a propane fill station for quick and easy convenience. Rates start at $35 per night.

Raysville Campground
Raysville Campground is situated on Georgia's little river section of Clarks Hill Lake and has 55 family campsites with 50-amp electrical hookups. The campground is ideal for boating, water skiing, swimming, hiking, or relaxing while watching the sunset over the lake. There's also a boat ramp and dock conveniently located on-site. All campsite rates are $28 per night.

What to Do at
Hamburg State Park
Inside Hamburg State Park
When Hamburg State Park is hosting events, the on-site museum is open with displays of old agriculture tools and implements used in rural Georgia. Furthermore, the 1921 water-powered gristmill is operational during events, allowing visitors to learn how it operates and grinds corn. No matter the time of year, anglers can try to catch bream, largemouth bass, and crappie at the fishing pier or take a motorboat out on the water to fish. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy viewing the animals that roam the park, like raccoons, turtles, deer, alligators, and a variety of bird species. There are 3.5 miles of trails to go hiking or biking, and boats are available for rent on-site.
Outside Hamburg State Park
Once you've depleted everything there is to do inside the park, you can start exploring the surrounding areas. The proximity around Hamburg State Park is full of restaurants, shops, and other attractions. Most of the nearby establishments are in Gibson or Mitchell.

McDuffie Museum
Learn the history of McDuffie County through the museum collections at McDuffie Museum. The history collection provides an overview of the preservation of the community, which includes lessons on the land, legacies, and how the citizens played a significant role in the nation's history.

Lockerly Arboretum
Visitors to Lockerly Arboretum can walk or drive the grounds for free in honor of Mr. EJ. Grassmann. There are hiking trails and a picnic area on the grounds. Rose Hill, the Hatcher's family home, can be toured for a $3 admission fee.

Mitchell Depot Museum
The Mitchell Depot Museum is the former railroad depot on the Augusta Southern Railroad. The museum is located along Highway 102 in Glascock County, right by Hamburg State Park. Many historical artifacts and other native items to Glascock County are displayed in the museum.

Georgia's Oldest Jail
This little jailhouse is about 80 miles south of Athens and less than 9 miles from the state park. Aaron Burr spent the night in this very jail on his way back to stand trial for treason.

Hickory Hill Historic House Museum
Hickory Hill Historic House Museum was the home of Thomas E. Watson, and most of his furniture is still located in their original spots. The ground surrounding Hickory Hill has a variety of support structures, including a barn, peacock run, smokehouse, and more. The home can be toured with an experienced guide for a small fee.

How to Get to
Hamburg State Park
From Mitchell, head west on Main Street, turn left on the first cross street onto Highway 102. Follow Highway 102 West for two miles, and then turn right onto Hamburg Road. Follow onto Agricola Road, travel for about 3 miles, and then turn left onto State Route 248. The state park will be located on the right.
