The early history of the area that would come to be called Henderson began potentially as much as 6,000 years ago. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is only 24 miles away from Henderson. At the park, you can hike one of the four trails or wander through the area via boat. Fishing is often enjoyed here.
At 49 miles away, Palmetto Island State Park is a great place to spot wildlife. The best way to explore the park is by boat, but trails allow you to see some of the park on land. Anglers will want to try fishing here as well.
Chicot State Park is a great place to catch some fish, and it’s only 62 miles away. Hiking, birding, and boating can be enjoyed here, and there is a water playground to occupy small children.
St. Ann’s Infirmary is only 18 miles away from Henderson. Built in 1937, this is not only the oldest but also the first medical facility in the area to accept African American patients. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
The Steamboat House was built in 1896 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. At only 28 miles away, it’s a great place to see Victorian-style architecture that is present in the house.
The White Adler Memorial Light Marker, which is a mere 61 miles away, is a Louisiana landmark that honors the shipmates of the CGC White Adler. The United States Coast Guard ship went down on December 7, 1968, and 17 of the 20 crewmates onboard were lost.
