RVING AT THE EVENT

If you are thinking about attending Summer Smash with your RV, you will need to make parking arrangements in advance. The Douglass Park neighborhood is residential, and there are not many places to park around the festival grounds. Your best choice might be to find a suburban RV campground and then head off to the music festival via public transportation. Fortunately, Chicago has excellent public transportation, including buses and trains. Your RV will be a great way to unwind after an exciting day of music at Summer Smash. If you don't have an RV, you can get an RV rental with RVshare. Here are some of the best places to park your RV.

Blackwell Forest Preserve

Blackwell Forest Preserve is located in Warrenville, and it is just a 20-minute drive to Chicago. There are a few campsites that can be reserved, and each site offers 20-amp electric hookups. You should check out the other amenities, including the hiking trails and fishing ponds. You can buy firewood on site for your fire pit. There is also a modern bathhouse with flushing toilets. For those wanting to find public transportation into the city, you can connect to the Metra train line in Naperville or Lisle. For many special events in Chicago, the trains operate on a special schedule. You can find this campground at:

Butterfield Rd

Warrenville, IL 60555

(630) 933-7200

Pine Country RV & Camping Resort

Pine Country is another excellent choice to park your RV. This park is located in the northern suburbs, and it is accessible to the major highways. Pine Country is only a short drive to Chicago’s downtown area. At this location, there are over 100 sites with 30- and 50-amp electric hookups. After a day at Summer Smash, you can take advantage of some of the amenities, including modern showers and a swimming pool. The address for this RV park is:

Race View Farms

This RV park is located on 160 acres in Joliet, and it is a family-owned and -operated campground. You can find this park near some major attractions, including the Route 66 Raceway and Chicagoland Speedway. Every location offers 30-amp electric hookups and pull-through sites. WHERE TO STAY

If you want to experience the fun of Summer Smash while camping in your RV, you will need to stay outside of the city. There is a wide range of RV parks in the suburbs, and you can leave your rig for the day to enjoy the festivities at Douglass Park. Chicago public transportation will be your best bet to get around the city. Once the festival is finished at the end of the night, you can relax at a comfortable campground.

If you decide to stay in a hotel, there are many hotels throughout the city. Douglass Park is a small neighborhood with limited accommodations, so many visitors stay at a hotel in the downtown area. You can find everything from budget motels to designer hotels, including most of the major hotel chains. During the summer, the hotel rates are higher. You will also want to make your reservations in advance.

HOW TO GET THERE

The city of Chicago is a major transportation hub. You can get to Chicago by train, plane or vehicle. There are several interstates that travel through Chicago. These interstates and highways include I-55, I-90, I-94, I-290 and I-294. If you are driving by RV, these interstates are the easiest way to get to the heart of Chicago.

If you are camping at one of the suburban RV parks, you can take the Amtrak or Metra lines into the city. Most of the trains will make a stop at Union Station in downtown Chicago. From that location, you can take a bus or train to Douglas Park.

You might be flying into Chicago to pick up your RV rental. There are two international airports that service the area. The largest airport is Chicago O’Hare International Airport, which is 16 miles from the downtown area of Chicago. Chicago Midway International Airport is a regional airport about 11 miles from Chicago

PARKING

Since Summer Smash is located in a residential neighborhood, there are parking restrictions. The festival organizers suggest that you use public transportation. If you want to drive into the downtown Chicago area, you will need to allow extra time for traffic congestion. Multiple parking garages and lots are located in the downtown area of Chicago. You can find parking available at the Grant Park and Millennium Park garages.
