Preparing for Your Asheville RV Trip

The first thing you need to do when planning your trip to Asheville is decide whether you want a towable or drivable RV rental. A travel trailer can be towed behind your vehicle, which means you’ll have a way to get around as you explore the city. A Class A, B, or C motorhome is a drivable option with all of the comforts of home. You also have the option of having RVshare bring your RV rental to your campground so that it’s set up and ready to go when you arrive.

Once you have your RV rental booked, you need to find the perfect campground. There are many family-friendly options in the area, such as Wilson’s Riverfront RV Park, just outside of downtown Asheville. This pet-friendly campground features bike rentals and has a pleasant bike path that runs by it. Asheville Bear Creek RV Park at the junction of Interstate 4 and Interstate 240 offers convenient campsites along Hominy Creek.

Day 1: Explore the Area’s Best Offerings

Morning: Check Out Antique Cars

Start your day at the Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum at Grovewood Village. The showroom features vintage vehicles owned by Harry D. Bloomberg, who owned Asheville’s Cadillac and Pontiac dealerships. In addition to cars like the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, you’ll find custom-designed Roycroft chandeliers and an authentic moonshine still.

Lunch: Dining at the Corner Kitchen

After a quiet morning in the museum, stop for lunch at the Corner Kitchen. Here, you can enjoy American fare served in a Victorian cottage. Outdoor seating is also available.

Afternoon: The Famous Biltmore

Spend your afternoon at the Biltmore Estate, where you can explore the luxurious home of George and Edith Vanderbilt. Your self-guided tour covers all three floors of the house and the basement. Afterward, stroll among the beautiful gardens, and don’t forget to stop by the winery with its 20 handcrafted vintages.

Setting Up Camp

As evening approaches, you’ll want to head to your Asheville campground and get set up. You’ll check in with the host, pull into your campsite, attach any hookups, and settle in. Does this sound daunting? Ask about having the RV owner deliver your rental directly to your campsite.

Dinner: Try Pack’s Tavern

When the dinner hour comes, cook a delicious meal in your RV rental’s kitchen or enjoy some campfire favorites outdoors. If you’re looking for a relaxing pub, try Pack’s Tavern on Spruce Street. They serve wood-fired pizzas, burgers, and entrees, and they feature a full bar with 30 beers to pick from.

Day 2: Head for the Great Outdoors

Morning: Lovely Garden Trails

Start your second day with a leisurely stroll through the North Carolina Arboretum. Here, you’ll be able to explore beautiful trails and botanical gardens found in the Bent Creek Experimental Forest near the Blueridge Parkway.

Lunch: A Sunny Lunch Spot

Stop for a bite to eat at Sunny Point Cafe. The menu includes a variety of award-winning comfort foods. They’re a favorite among locals.

Afternoon: Go Tubing

Book an afternoon with Asheville Tubing Adventure. This allows you to take a relaxing trip down the French Broad River. Feel free to stop for a swim along the way.

Evening: Take a Spooky Ghost Tour

Asheville Terrors ghost tours take you on a chilling stroll around the city. Your guide will tell you all about the city’s spooky tales and haunting history. It’s a great way to learn about Asheville’s many historic sites and buildings.
