But enough about that! Let’s dive into the fun stuff: the amusement parks themselves.
Big Splash Adventure Indoor Waterpark & Resort (French Lick)
Looking to have some water park fun in the colder months? Big Splash Adventure Indoor Waterpark and Resort in French Lick is the place for you. This spot is totally fun! It’s all inside, so it’s open year-round, but the roof is retractable so hot and sunny weather can still be enjoyed. This means a splashing good time no matter what the weather decides to do!
Stand-Out Features
With 40,000 square feet of water park fun, we’re betting you can easily fill a day at Big Splash Adventure. Some favorite must-sees include:
- Pirate’s Plunder enclosed body slide
- Splish Splash Pool for little ones
- Silver Beard’s Revenge raft slide
- Lost River lazy river
The water park is attached to a hotel with more than 150 rooms, and you’ll be able to access The Boatyard for delicious dishes to keep you fueled along the way.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
Unlike many other water park resorts, Big Splash does allow day passes to be purchased by non-hotel guests (though numbers are limited, so you’ll want to pre-purchase them online ahead of time. This does make it an awesome destination for RV campers, though, since you’ll be able to camp nearby and still enjoy the park! Some of our favorite campgrounds in the area include:
- If you’re looking for an outdoorsy and affordable option, nearby Hoosier National Forest offers plenty of opportunities for RV campers, including full hookup sites
- French Lick Farms offers a limited number of partial hookup RV spaces, and all RV camping guests have access to their bath house
Deep River Waterpark (Crown Point)
Located about an hour outside of Chicago in Merrillville, Deep River Waterpark is an excellent summer fun destination. The park opens on Memorial Day weekend and stays open through Labor Day, offering residents and visitors a full three months of watery fun. If you’re local, you can also plan a birthday party event or take advantage of discounts like Food Bank Thursdays.
Stand-Out Features
This medium-sized water park offers something for all ages. From large water slides for the thrill seekers to a play area for little ones, every single person in your family is sure to find something to love about this place. Our favorites include:
- The Dragon speed slides
- The Storm tube ride
- Paddles Play Zone
- Mid-America’s Great River Ride
You can also enjoy a variety of on-site dining opportunities, including treats like Dippin’ Dots, and rentable cabanas.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
Although it’s in Indiana, this park is really part of the greater Chicago area, so you’ll have plenty of Chicago RV campgrounds to choose from. Some nearby options we like include:
- Lakeshore Camp Resort, which puts you within easy access of the lakeshore (as its name suggests) as well as the water park
- And, of course, when you’re this close to the Indiana Sand Dunes State and National Parks, you can’t miss the opportunity to camp in one of the most beautiful landscapes east of the Mississippi Rive
Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari (Santa Claus)
Considering this park is located in the town of Santa Claus, you can probably guess right off the bat that Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is going to be a fun place. A combination of amusement park and water park, this place has been around since 1946 and continues to draw international attention today. It may be the most “classic” amusement park in the entire state of Indiana.
Stand-Out Features
While Holiday World is famous for its wooden roller coasters (more on that in just a second), the park has far more to offer than just wooden roller coasters. Here, you’ll also find some awesome steel coasters, super cute kiddie rides, plenty of family rides, and on the water park side of things, incredible water slides! The park also plays host to a variety of performances, as well as some delicious food options. Don’t miss:
- The world-famous trio of wooden roller coasters, The Voyage, The Legend and The Raven
- World-class thrills on Thunderbird Launched Wing Coaster
- Good Gravy! Family Roller Coaster
- Gentler options for little ones like Dancer’s Fish, Dasher’s Seahorses and Just for Pups
- Water park attractions like Mammoth Water Coaster, the world’s longest
Holiday World also offers mobile orders for its on-site food and drink, making staying fueled as simple as a swipe.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
Santa Claus is located outside of Evansville, and there are a few different RV camping options to choose from. We prefer:
- Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph for a resort-style stay close to the park (and everything this part of Indiana has to offer)
- Once again, nearby Hoosier National Forest offers a more rugged (though still well-appointed) option for campers looking for affordability and closeness to nature
Indiana Beach Amusement & Water Park (Monticello)
Indiana Beach Amusement and Water Park is definitely well worth visiting during your time in Indiana. This awesome park, located on the shore of Lake Schafer in Monticello, has been up and running since 1926. Because this park is halfway between Chicago and Indianapolis, many visitors find that it’s the perfect location for a day trip or a weekend getaway.
Stand-Out Features
Indiana Beach is renowned for a few key features, including:
- Hoosier Hurricane and Cornball Express wooden roller coasters
- Steel Hawg and All American Loop steel coasters
- Shafer Queen river paddlewheel boat
- Giant Gondola Wheel
- Water park features including Rocky’s Rapids Log Flume
- Bumper cars and bumper boats
Wondering what else there is to do in this park? Well, there are often live music performances, and fireworks nights are a must-see. Of course, shopping is also an option, and theme park food is found around every corner.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
Located on a jut of land dipping straight into the Tippecanoe River, this park offers a campground of its very own, so you don’t have to stay far at all from the action! Another nearby opportunity to consider is the Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday, which offers well-appointed and cozy accommodations including camping cabins in case the on-site campground is full (or you just want a change of scenery).
Pine Lake Waterpark (Berne)
Pine Lake Waterpark in Berne is an interesting water park because it’s built in a lake rather than a set of swimming pools. This lake has been a favorite swimming hole for locals since 1922. Since then, the spot has grown into a full-fledged park with all kinds of attractions that the whole family can enjoy together.
Stand-Out Features
This unique park offers a whole host of one-of-a-kind attractions, including:
- The Black Hole enclosed body slide
- Jump Tower
- Cable Ride zip line
- Log Walk
- Splash Pad
- Racer and Kiddie Slides
Because they’re all designed around a natural body of water, the entire experience offers a slightly more rustic and nostalgic feel than a typical water park, making it a perfect pairing for RV camping.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
The nearest developed campground to Pine Lake Waterpark is the Bluffton / Fort Wayne South KOA Journey, which offers a host of classic KOA amenities including a Kamping Kitchen, Dog Park, on-site snack bar and firewood for sale. Ouabache State Park is another good publicly operated option nearby.
Slick City Action Park (Brownsburg)
A newer opportunity for fun in Indiana, Slick City Action Park opened in Brownsburg in 2025. With a unique range of indoor slides, as well as swing, trapeze and trampoline attractions, this is the kind of place where you can spend a rainy day and not be upset about the weather for even a second.
Stand-Out Features
At Slick City, it’s all about sliding, jumping, swinging, and flying (safely) through the air. Things move fast around here! Top attractions include:
- Body slides including Fast Lane, Royal Flush, Rush, and Cowabunga
- Swing & Trapeze attraction
- Freestyle Air Court
- Web Crawler climbing net for kids five and under
The park is also a popular option for kids’ birthday parties and group events, including fundraisers and school spirit nights.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
Located just west of Indianapolis, there’s lots to see and do near Slick City — and plenty of RV campgrounds in the area, as well. Some of our favorites include:
- Speedway RV Park, the perfect place to stay if you’ll also be experiencing a race at the speedway or taking a stroll through the Motor Speedway Museum (which of course you can’t miss while you’re in Indy!)
- Raceview Family Campground for a highly rated, family-owned option just a bit further afield of the track
- Finally, for those hoping to get a bit further away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Sugar Creek Campground & Canoe Rentals, located just northwest of Turkey Run State Park (which has its own campsites to consider)
Splash Island Water Park (Plainfield)
Another water park option can be found in Plainfield, just outside of Indianapolis. Splash Island Water Park is located at the Plainfield Recreation Center and is an awesome indoor and outdoor water fun spot that the locals love and guests will enjoy just as much.
Stand-Out Features
It may be small, but it’s also mighty! Among the classic water park attractions at Splash Island, your family will find:
- Enclosed body tube slides
- A lazy river
- Lap pool
- Splash zone
The indoor aquatic zone also makes it possible to enjoy some splish-splashing fun when the weather’s not so sunny.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
Another park that’s part of the greater Indianapolis area, some additional campgrounds closer to this park include the Cloverdale / Indianapolis West KOA Journey as well as Heritage Lake Campground.
Tropicanoe Cove (Lafayette)
Finally, we must mention Tropicanoe Cove in Lafayette. Run by the city itself, this little water park is tons of fun for kids and adults alike, and is a great place to spend a summer day.
We love that the smaller size of this park makes it easy for parents to keep track of their little kids in the kiddie splash area while allowing older kids to have the freedom to use the other attractions. The slides at this park include a pretty intense tube slide as well as a collection of wavy racing slides and a more leisurely tube slide. On top of all of that, there is also a lazy river that is perfect for cooling off on a hot day.
Stand-Out Features
As mentioned above, this park features a wide range of attractions aimed at visitors of every age. Favorite attractions include:
- Enclosed body slides and thrill slides
- Kiddie slides and kid pools
- Lazy river
- Lawn chairs and areas to relax
Tropicanoe also hosts special event days including the Workreation volunteer program, Mother’s and Father’s Day events, Christmas in July and Military Appreciation Day.
Nearby RV Campgrounds
Lafayette and West Lafayette are rich with things to do, and nearby campgrounds make for the perfect home base from which to experience it all. We recommend:
- AOK Campground for 50-amp hookups and big-rig compatibility
- Prophetstown State Park if you’re hoping for affordable accommodations within arm’s reach of beautiful hiking trails and natural surroundings
Tips for an Incredible Indiana Amusement Park Trip
Now that you’ve got all these amazing Indiana amusement parks to hit on your list, it’s time to get started on the planning phase! Just a few tips and tricks can help you turn your RV camping trip from fun to fantastic. For instance:
- Book early. Both for the parks themselves and for your RV campgrounds (and even the rental RVs), earlier booking means you’ll have more options to choose from and sometimes even better pricing.
- Pick the right RV for your needs. If you’ve got a big family and love to live in the lap of luxury, a Class A motorhome or fifth-wheel travel trailer may be the move. On the other hand, if you’re a couple enjoying a romantic getaway, a sleeper van or pop-up camper might be all you need. It’s all up to you!
- Don’t forget about everything else Indiana has to offer. Check out The Hoosier State’s many incredible state parks, many of which are amazing camping opportunities in and of themselves, as well as its national sites and other attractions. You can’t miss a stop at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway if you’re a racing fan, for instance — or, honestly, even if you’re not!
- Also don’t forget: We’ve got you every step of the way. Every single RVshare rental comes with insurance coverage (you choose the level) as well as roadside assistance, so you’ll be set to go, even if life throws some unexpected twists and turns at you — just like a roller coaster.
