Hiking and Biking
Diane Gabriel Trail
A short drive from Glendive OHV Area is Diane Gabriel Trail. The main attraction of the trail is the dinosaur fossil that takes around 30 minutes to complete. Despite being less than one mile in length, the trail includes some difficult moments. Rattlesnakes can be an issue on the trail, which can feel secluded on quiet days.

Gunners Ridge Trail to Hungry Joe Overlook
A long trail taking more than two hours to complete, Gunner Ridge Trail to Hungry Joe Overlook provides hikers with stunning views. The elevation gain of more than 500 feet adds to the difficulty level and provides links to other trails. The trail takes hikers toward the badlands from Glendive and takes in a walk along a ridge for more than a mile.

Fishing and Boating
Despite being located beside Montana's Badlands, Glendive is known as the US capital of paddlefish and caviar. There are fishing opportunities available along the Yellowstone River, with trout a popular target for fly anglers. The Yellowstone River provides plenty of opportunities for boating and kayaking throughout the warmer months.
Climbing
The best climbing opportunities in the Glendive area are found in the Badlands region. Climbing is difficult around Badland Butte, which stands 2,687 feet high. Makoshika State Park is located 30 miles from Glendive and provides excellent scrambling routes. The soil and gravel around each climb can be unstable and make climbing dangerous in the area.
Wildlife Viewing
There are plenty of animals to view around the Glendive OHV Area, including turkey vultures and the American kestrel. Mule deer are often seen in the area, with mountain lions known to inhabit this part of Montana.
Picnicking
There are no designated picnic areas at Glendive OHV Area, although trails and unexplored areas do offer beautiful views across Glendive. A short drive to Makoshika State Park will provide plenty of picnic tables and shelters.
Off-Road Vehicles
There are plenty of roads and trails for drivers of off-road vehicles to explore. All vehicles must carry a license plate or have been inspected for safety. All motorized vehicles must remain on the designated trails.
Fossil Hunting
The Badlands and the area around Glendive are important for fossil hunters. Dinosaur fossils are visible in Makoshika State Park and along trails around Glendive.
