Plan your visit from mid-May to mid-September; during the rest of the year, heavy snow makes the roads impassable. The tiny hamlet of Marshfield is close by, and Montpelier is just 25 miles west.

Ricker Pond State Park Campground
Located just down the road from Stillwater State Park, Ricker Pond State Park Campground is smaller and quieter. It sits near Ricker Pond and is within walking distance from Lake Groton and the Montpelier-Wells Rail Trail. Book one of 26 sites, each with access to drinking water but no hookups. The campground offers restrooms with flush toilets and showers as well as a dump station for your RV. It's also open longer than Stillwater, which is handy if you want to camp in the fall; sites are available from the end of May through mid-October. Rates start at $19 per night.
Big Deer State Park Campground
Big Deer State Park Campground sits on the northern shore of Lake Groton, about 1 mile from Stillwater State Park. Here, you can choose from 22 different sites. Like the other parks in the area, this campground does not offer hookups. However, drinking water, hot showers, and flush toilets are within walking distance of every site. The season runs from the end of May to the first week of September. Expect to pay $19 per night.
Sugar Ridge Rv Village and Campground
Looking for a campground with full hookups for your RV? Sugar Ridge RV Village and Campground is the closest option to Stillwater State Park. It's geared toward families, and it offers perks such as mini-golf, wagon rides, multiple playgrounds, a game room, swimming pools, and more. Stillwater State Park
Inside Stillwater State Park
When the weather is warm at Stillwater State Park, head straight for the water. The park rents out canoes and kayaks, so you can spend the day fishing or paddling to the other parks along the shore. The large sandy beach has a dedicated swimming area that's popular with families. There is a boat launch in the park, but it's only available if you're staying in the campground. From your site, you can access all of the trails in Groton State Forest; hike 17 miles of trails, or bring your horse or mountain bike to explore the 20-mile network of gravel roads. If you're traveling with kids, join in on family-friendly events such as campfire programs, craft afternoons, night hikes, educational programs, and more.
How to Get to
Stillwater State Park
To get to Stillwater State Park, you'll need to connect to VT-232. If you're coming from Interstate 91, the fastest option is to take Exit 17 to VT-232 north. From Montpelier, take Highway 2 to Marshfield and head south on VT-232 until you reach the park.

Stillwater State Park is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day between May 15 and September 13.
