Explore Deltona, Florida in an RVshare RV Rental

This small community is located on the northern shore of Lake Monroe. The nomadic Tumucians originally inhabited the area of Deltona. Once Florida gained its statehood, steamboats began to make trips up and down the St. Johns River to Lake Monroe. One of the first settlers in the Deltona area was a former Confederate secret agent George Sauls and his family. His original estate caught fire, but the Volusia County Historical Commission eventually designated the remaining site as a historic landmark. However, the site was decommissioned in 2000, with the site marker moved to a nearby cemetery.

In the early 1960s, Deltona was established as a planned residential community developed by the General Development Corporation and the Mackle Brothers. Initially, Deltona was called Deltona Lakes. Since the community's opening in 1962, it has grown from a small subdivision to one of Central Florida's biggest cities. Attempts to incorporate the city failed in 1987 and 1990, but residents were successful in 1995. At that time, the city's name changed from Deltona Lakes to Deltona. By 2000, Deltona became the most populous city in Volusia County. Today, Deltona is the home of the famous Blue Spring State Park and its visiting manatees in the winter. Along with that, visitors can enjoy other types of outdoor activities like river rafting and hiking. If you want a spot close to the major attractions but still located in a quiet part of the state, make plans to visit Deltona.
