The City of Chino Hills was incorporated on December 1, 1991, and is located at the western end of the San Bernardino Valley and the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The city borders Los Angeles County on its northwest side and Orange County to its southwest. This led to a population boom as new residents moved in to take advantage of the easy access to Los Angeles and Orange County. By the 1980s, Chino Hills had become one of the fastest-growing cities in Southern California.

With its wealth of parks and open spaces, Chino Hills provides many recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails in the city, horseback riding trails, and several golf courses. The city is also home to the Vellano Country Club, which features a 27-hole golf course designed by Pete Dye.
