If you’re ready to enjoy a perfect combination of southwestern landscapes leading up into some of the most well-hidden Pacific Northwest gems, a road trip from Salt Lake City to Seattle is the perfect option. Starting at Utah’s capital, you’ll wend your way about 12 hours and 850 miles through the scenic stretch of southern Idaho (including opportunities to stop by Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve as well as the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area), and then into stretches of eastern Oregon that even many Portland natives have missed, like the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and Umatilla National Forest. That’s all before you even get to Washington, where you’ll pass directly through the world-class mountain destination of Snoqualmie Pass on your way into one of the west coast’s biggest cities. Oh, and did we mention you could easily add North Cascades National Park or Olympic National Park to the roster?
Why Is This Route Popular?
This route is perfect for a one-way RV rental specifically because it gets so remote: When traveling in a rental RV, you’ll carry all the comforts of home along with you, which means you’ll always be cozy, even when you’re truly in the middle of nowhere. Plus, a trip this long demands a lot of time and energy — and obviously even more of it if you have to backtrack and go all the way back the way you came. Fortunately, taking a one-way rental RV along this route means you’ll be able to save all your time, money and bandwidth for exploring it well the first time, and once you get to Seattle, you can easily fly out to get back home after you drop off your rental rig. Talk about a win-win situation!
