Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument was designated in 2016 by President Obama. It is 87,563 acres of land in rural Maine that is relatively remote, making it a great place to stargaze and look for wildlife that lives in this area. From this national monument, you can see incredible scenic views of Mount Katahdin. In the fall, the foliage is breathtaking, and the untouched wilderness is a great place to explore any time of the year. You will find plenty of moose, bears, deer, and other animals in this part of Maine.

How To Get To Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument

From Bangor, ME, take I-95 N until you reach Medway. From there, you will travel on ME-157 W for about 25 miles. Then, turn right onto Madden Road, and follow it to Hauling Road 1, where you will turn right. This road will lead you directly to the national monument.
