  • Tomales Point Trail

    Tomales Point Trail is located near Marshall. This trail is the perfect spot to see plenty of wildlife like the Tule Elk and the view, of course, is stunning. It is a long hike but reaching the tip of the bay is worth the walk. Be ready with a snack and a jacket because it can get a little windy.

  • Chimney Rock Trail

    The Chimney Rock Trail is located near Inverness. This trail gets a lot of foot traffic, probably because of the lovely wildflowers along the way. It can get a little windy, but the rugged coastline is so beautiful. If you listen closely, you will be able to hear the elephant seals offshore.

  • Laguna Trailhead

    The Laguna Trail and Coast Trail Loop are located near the Point Reyes Station. This is a kid-friendly trail that is an easy hike. You will want to bring a camera because there are some breathtaking views with varied scenery. Limantour Beach, which is along the trail, is a wonderful spot to stop for a picnic lunch.

  • Historic Point Reyes Lifeboat Station

    The Point Reyes Lifeboat Station was established in 1890 to help troubled ships along Point Reyes Beach, which was known for its bad weather and pounding surf. The surfmen were diligent in helping to save lives. Today the station reaches into Drakes Bay at the eastern tip of the peninsula, where it has been since 1927.

  • Hearts Desire Beach

    Hearts Desire Beach is a picturesque hidden cove and is a favorite hangout on a sunny day. It faces the calm protected Tomales Bay. This is a great spot for swimming or wading. The water is not warm, but it is warmer than the nearby Pacific Ocean. Parking does tend to fill up quickly, so you may want to get there early and bring a picnic lunch.

  • Point Reyes Lighthouse

    Your visit would not be complete without going to the lighthouse. The Point Reyes Lighthouse has been open since 1870. This area has a fascinating history and geology. This is also a great place for bird watching or for watching whales during their migration. Be sure to bring your binoculars to see whales and a variety of other marine life and birds.

    Jack Mason Museum of West Marin History collects historical information about the people and places in West Marin. It was named after the founder and historian Jack Mason. Materials document the history of Point Reyes, Olema Valley, Marshall, Tocaloma, Inverness, and Tomales Bay.

How To Get To Point Reyes National Seashore

Santa Rosa is probably the biggest city nearby, so we can start from there. Travel down Highway 101 to Petaluma. Go through Petaluma and then head southwest on D Street out of town. The D Street turns into Red Hill Road and then to Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. At Tucaloma, turn right onto Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Turn right onto north Highway CA-1 N. Then turn left onto Bear Valley Road. From there, turn onto the Bear Valley Visitor Access Road. From there, you will reach the Bear Valley Trailhead and Point Reyes National Seashore Association.
