Lollapalooza is a four-day celebration of all music genres, including alternative rock, metal, hip-hop, and pop. Originally conceived as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell in 1991, the tour saw a varied degree of intermittent successes and revivals as a touring concept in the years following. In 2005, it was reimagined as a multiday weekend festival in Chicago, and it has enjoyed success ever since as a single-destination festival.
Currently, it is a four-day extravaganza that features many popular artists from all types of musical genres. It averages around 400,000 in attendance, and there are typically upward of 170 artists appearing on a total of eight different stages. Lollapalooza is one of the largest and most iconic music festivals around as well as one of the longest running. C3 Presents has a controlling interest in the festival, and Farrell is still associated with the Lollapalooza name, although he has recently branched into other interests.
While at the festival, you can expect more than just music performances. It is also a celebration of the coming end of summer. There are a number of variety acts and entertainment spectacles, charitable and nonprofit informational booths, vendors, and lots of food and beverages. Chow Town is the name of the refreshment venue for Lollapalooza, and it features food vendors showcasing the best of Chicago's restaurants.
Lollapalooza is held every summer during a four-day "weekend" in Chicago. For 2024, the festival will take place Aug 1-4 at Grant Park. Artists will be performing throughout each day from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The festival includes a variety of talent, both nationally recognized and local. While the original Lollapalooza focused on alternative and rock performers, the festival now includes R&B, dance, hip-hop, and mainstream pop acts. For the full 2023 lineup, visit the Lollapalooza Lineup page.

There are low-clearance bridges in the area, so be sure to contact McCormick Place for the best route. You can also use a GPS with bridge heights programming features.
