The High Sierra Music Festival takes place around the Fourth of July weekend in the small town of Quincy in northern California. Since its start in 1991, the festival has evolved into a multistage event at the Plumas County Fairgrounds with over 10,000 people in attendance. The organizers have overcome financial difficulties that threatened to put an end to the festival, and their message to all the music fans and RVers is, "To paraphrase the words of Mark Twain: 'The rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.'" This year marks the 33rd for the festival. In past years, the festival has featured four or five dozen bands of different styles from all around the country. The diversity of the bands and artists that the festival features is one of the biggest draws for the crowds of music fans that descend on the small town of Quincy, California every year around Independence Day.
You can enjoy a bevy of wonderful food and drink displays and then participate in arts and crafts events. "Swirl" is the tasting event for adult beverages. Each day of the festival, there are different costume themes, so feel free to express yourself with what the British call "fancy dress." For attendees with children, the Family Zone provides wholesome entertainment for kids of all ages.
The High Sierra Music Festival is completely compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act. Clean Vibes partners with the festival to help maintain a green posture throughout the four days. You can attend yoga classes and guided music events to lift your spirits.
The street address of the High Sierra Music Festival is 204 Fairground Rd, Quincy, California, 95971. Quincy is in the middle of Plumas National Forest, so you can bring your hiking boots for the forest's trails and your telescope for stargazing into the Class-2 Bortle skies overhead when you get outside the town.
The musical lineup will be announced soon. Keep your eye on the festival website's lineup tab. You can also peruse the lineups of previous festivals.
RV camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis. If on-site camping is at capacity, then off-site camping will be provided along with a shuttle service. The fairgrounds have permanent restrooms and showers, and facilities for the festival will include ample portable toilets, a shower trailer, and a portable sink unit. Camping at High Sierra can be quite cozy, especially in the more popular areas such as Shady Grove, Hillside, and Big Meadow. The temperatures in Quincy routinely rise into the 90s in July, so you need to make adequate preparations for the heat. That includes making sure that you have enough water in your RV. Generally, you will need about a gallon per person per hour when attending the festival. It's important, too, to have strong sunblock, dark sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, and loose clothing that breathes.
If you'd prefer indoor accommodations, here are a couple of lodgings to consider: • The Quincy Feather Bed Inn provides five rooms and two cottages for rent, combining a charming bed and breakfast with a glamping option. The property is quiet, and the rooms have private bathrooms. Both the rooms and the cottages come with many of the amenities you would expect from a boutique hotel, including hair dryers, personal climate control, some small appliances, and comfy bathrobes. • Ada's Place is a glamping property that offers four well-appointed cottages. Nearby, there are angling, geocaching, and golfing opportunities, and here, you can return to refined luxury after attending the High Sierra Music Festival.
From Sacramento: Follow Route 70 north from the city. Continue on that road, which will wind its way through the Northern California countryside, until you reach Quincy. Be sure to follow the correct signs at junctions throughout your trip. From Reno, Nevada: Follow Route 395 northwest until you reach Hallelujah Junction. From there, take Route 70 west. It will take you right to Quincy. Be careful not to get on Route 89 accidentally in Blaisdell.
