Located 21 miles southwest of Fredericksburg, Lake Anna State Park is situated on beautiful Lake Anna. It features a large beach with a concession stand and picnic areas. The campground itself has nice level sites with and without water as well as electric hookups, fire rings, picnic tables, clean restrooms with hot showers, and lantern holders.
The park has a rich history of gold mining, and visitors can learn how to pan for gold. One of the hiking trails in the park leads you to what is left of Pigeon Plantation, which is a well-preserved smokehouse that still remains. Here, you can learn how Virginia hams are made and explore the layout and history of the plantation. The park offers ongoing nature and history programs led by a knowledgeable and friendly staff.
“This is a great park. It’s well maintained. We visited over the 4th of July and stayed at the campground (which was very nice). The park was packed on the 4th but very reasonable the other days. The beach was nice. The campground was nice. The spots were very spread out and private.” – Derrick, Google Review
