Cottonwood Campground, situated within the park and approximately 5 miles from Medora, ND, stands as the exclusive campground in the South Unit. While half of the sites can be reserved through recreation.gov, the remaining sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Welcoming both tents and RVs (without hookups), the campground experiences full occupancy each afternoon from mid-May through mid-September. For RVs and trailers, the pull-through sites boast varying maximum vehicle lengths, with many sites generously accommodating vehicles exceeding 50 feet. Back-in sites cater to vehicles within the 20 to 40 feet range. Most RV and trailer sites offer a fairly level terrain, ensuring accessibility for wheelchair users.
Cottonwood Campground serves as a prime location for visitors to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the park, providing a convenient base just miles away from Medora. Whether opting for a reserved site or seizing the opportunity for a spontaneous visit, campers can enjoy the serene ambiance and diverse landscapes of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
