You can get a season pass or pay by each day you go out per vehicle. The water in the lake at the beach can be a bit muddy at times, but it is still very beautiful. Don Carter is the newest state park in the Athens area, and it’s the first one on Lake Lanier. Located at the north end of a reservoir, the area is great if you want to go swimming, hiking, or fishing along sandy beaches. RV campers at this park have a separate gated area.
